pioneer MP740 (or something :p) head unit

how do you remove the back deck speakers? i did a search but i couldnt find any info on actually removing any of the speakers.

the right rear deck speaker buzzes, it could have possibly blown (max power is like 25W, and the RMS of the pioneer is 23W, IIRC. might have been a spike or something). but also, my rear window got totally busted out, and glass went everywhere. so im thinking some little pieces of glass got past the grill and thats why its buzzing now. or i could be wrong and its time to get some new speakers :D

id like to take a look at it, but i cant seem to figure out how to get that grill off.

any help? thanky

what you need to do is remove the rear deck...the speakers come out the top...here is how to remove the deck.

1: fold the seats down
2: remove the 5 faseners on the front side (little circles with a ring around them) use your fingernails, butterknife, flat head screwdriver, etc. be carefull not to loose them or break them
3: from the bottom of what you just unsecured, lift straight up. there are like 3 or 5 fasteners that will pop free when you do it
4: slide the rear deck towards the front of the car, but not too far
5: slide the side seat belts out of their slots. push/pull the middle one through the hole. it's easier on your's than mine
6: lift the rear deck up and push on the clips holding the 3rd brake light in. there are 2 on the front side. it should pop out.
7: set the deck back down, and disconnect the 3rd brake light. set it aside
8: pull the deck off all the way.
hope this helps

w00t, i was hoping the captain of the night/early AM shift would help me out :D

its a bit too late though to run out to the garage and try it out, but the information is greatly appreciated.

stupid paper cone speakers :p

I doubt any glass got on them, you just send to much distortion to them with the pioneer head unit.

The procedure sounds right to me.

hrm, its never buzzed before though...so i guess i just need new speakers? :(

edit: i have a pair of craptacular Xplod's here but they are like 5.25" round or something, but still bette rthan buzzing stock speakers (130W max, 35W rated power)...time to look for adapters...

Any shop should eb able to build you some for $20

The speakers are covered with a black cloth like materail to keep dust off of them. Glass small enouhg to slip thought the grill shouldn't beable to harm the cloth.

Here are the diagrams on removing the rear trim (taken from the workshop manual)...
