Hey guys, I've got a 98 1.8T. I've had a k04 and chip for a while and wanted to get more performance. I was recommended to port and polish the intake and exhaust. We found out they used abrasive material to do it like gritty sand. So I got with my friend that tunes Hondas and we decided to try it ourselves. We got a bag of sandblasting sand and hooked up into the intake and started the car. We had to hold the gas so it would run. He wanted to let the engine suck in the sand through the intake so it would port it out and then push it out the ehxaust so it would port the exhaust manifold.
I was worried that it might cause problems but he figured it'd be OK as long as we didn't make boost and it get sucked in the turbo. After running the car and letting it suck in sand we got about half way through a 25 lb bag. The check engine light was on and the engine was bucking and kicking and sounding really weird. We stopped and hooked the car back up normal and took off the sand supply. We tried to start it again and it was really hard. Once started it couldn't idle and kept making weird noises. We took it out and drove it and it started to make scraping and knocking noises.
Help! Can anyone tell me what to do! My buddy only does Hondas so he doesn't know much about Audis

:wtf:

Please provide a link so I can blast this guy hehe.

Some abrasives can be used like this though, but not 15 lbs of sand. I have seen people with older engines use a little bit of Ajax or other washing powder. Pour a little in the intake and it scuffs up the cylinder walls and allows the rings to reseat. Stops the engine from burning oil.

Also pouring a small amount of water into the inatke at WOT will "blast" away carbon deposits in the cylinder.

I would not recommend any of this though.

Are you kidding me? If that was real, he should jump off a bridge to help natural selection.

You've got to be kidding me...sounds like the really "polished" the internals...lol

tHIS PERSON DESERVES TO HAVE THAT 25 LB BAG OF SAND DROPPED ON HIS HEAD AND THEN HIS BROKEN ASS CAR DROPPED ON HIM. I can't beleive someone would do such a stupid thing to that nice of a car. Hmmmm I want more power I think I am going to dump a 30lb bag of fertilizer in my engine cause fertilizer is basically nitro right. Man that should give me a ton more horsepower. I am just so disgusted by this.... I think I am going to go and cry. Such a nice car meets it's dimise at the hands of a rice for brains kid.

There is no way that is true. That has to be a joke! I really don't think anyone is that stupid. (rofl)

Very true... On my truck, with it's old and uncomplicated Throttle Body Injection setup, I used water to clean out carbon about once a year. I pour about 6 ounces into the throat of the Throttle body really slowly. In mine, I just let it run at idle... It smokes really thick, and runs rough for about 15 seconds but then clears right up. I'll take it out, and run it hard a little afterwards to make sure it's all clear. It works a hell of a lot better than fuel injector cleaner or anything else I have tried for removing carbon deposits...I wouldn't recommend it for any newer engines though...

I hope for the love of everything holy that that kid didn't actually do that. Damn... LOL. I got some pea gravel I am gonna run through my car, as I want a really tough port and polish, and maybe a quick 3-angle valve job while I am at it...

LOL

:wtf:

Sorry just sitting here picturing that, and if I dont stop laughing I will pass out from lack of oxygen.

:D (rofl) (omg)

to clean out the carbon, why not just use ATF? that stuff smells like ass, but it'll clean out the carbon for sure! be careful, it'll smoke like crazy and your car will run like ass for a little bit until all of it is burned out of there. i'll ask about it again... my friend does it to his blazer every once in a while.

In an 1953 jeep that I rebuilt a few years ago, I added a bunch of ATF to the oil to get the Pistons to break loose... I let it sit about 24 hours, and then turned the Crankshaft Pulley with a breaking bar to break it loose. It worked like a champ, but I have never thought about pouring ATF in the gas or Fuel Injection system. Hell, with as nasty as that stuff is, it's bound to do something... LOL

That came from an audi forum. there are a follow up pictures of the oil/sand drained and a few parts that were left behind. It's a joke. After the incident, the shop swapped the engine with another audio 1.8T and was left with a few piston rings or something like that.

I am still looking for the link.

As it was discussed on previous forums, it's impossible to do that. Since they covered the intake so no air was able to get in...

It's a joke...no body is that stupid....

BTW does it works on hondas like that?
