HKS Hiper broke..38K miles

hey i have the same problem! i just posted about it in another thread. i'll copy and paste here...

"i have HKS axel back for the P5 too... do any of you guys use the the kartboy exhaust hangers?
i've had my HKS on my car for about 3 or 4 months and I noticed that the tip position was different when the car is cold ie. in the morning the gap between the tip and the notch in the bumper would be smaller but after driving for about 15mins the gap would be bigger... i just thought it was due to expand and contraction due to heat.
then one day i noticed that the gap was hanging bigger even when the car was cold so i looked under and found out that the hanger had ripped a hole out of the piping of the exhaust and it was only hanging by the back hanger. took it to a shop to get the hanger welded and the hole covered and they said that probably the first hanger was taking a lot of load due to the twist angle.. i dunno... could be bs... but then now the gap is always the same size hot or cold.
so you guys might want to check to see if your pipe is beginning to rip..."

ok so can anyone tell me the status on warranty? and how many ppl have this issue...? sorry i didn't have time to read over all the replys

ok saw your pics... thats exactly how mine broke too!
um... so why does HKS charge so much for a faullty built exhaust?

i just talke dto my friend @ HKS he said he has yet to have any warr. issuses, he said there is a 1 year war.. on them but it would probably cost more to ship it back to them than to have someone weld it up

Chris, that's exactly what they said to me when I called. I wish the other people with the problem would call and let them know. It is much cheaper to fix it ourselves than to have them fix it. I'd just like them to realize that there is a problem.

s***. I've had mine for about 15k, how and where is it breaking on you guys?

Look at the pics earlier in the thread. Page 2 reply #20 Mine lasted almost a year. I welded mine up and put kartboy hangers on the midpipe/cat hangers.

i e-mailed the people i bought it from, adventon.com, they said shipping to and from hks would be way more than getting it professionally repaired so they recommended that, but they said they were behind me if i wanted to pursue the warranty work

i might be way off, but here goes:

the exhaust can is angled up, so when it rains, some water can get in there. if you don't drive the car, the water can cause rusting inside, so that may weaken the axle pipe. added with the stress from the hangar, that could be causing the breakage.

the water cant really get that far in there (i dont think) plus the bumper protects the tip so even if it was raining REALLY hard, not much more than a few drops would get in

It isn't rusted through, it's stress. Besides the spot that breaks is the highest point of the exhaust.

As I said earlier, please call HKS and let them know.

i will call them tomorrow.

yes i don't think it is a rain issue... we haven't got rain in los angeles since i got mine installed.

Cool, thanks. It's the stress from the rest of the exhaust wieghing down the front hanger on the muffler. I put kartboy poly hangers on the front and hopefully it took enough stress off to not break again. I also welded the support bracket much more than HKS had from the factory.

be careful because just slopping it up with weld beads could weaken it

LOL, it broke again.(51K miles) My welds must not have been good enough. I also noticed that all of the weight is on the front hanger, which is the weaker of the two. So, I'm gonna weld it up again and bend the hanger so most of the stress is put on the rear hanger.

mine broke!
exactly at the point you guys are talking about. the top hanger on the axle pipe. i actually got it welded for free. the exhaust guy didn't charge me anything for such a small job. anyways, he welded back on and bent the other hanger so that take some of the stress off the rear one.

My s*** ******* broke today is there a chance to get HKS to send me a new exhaust or to hook me up some how cause this is bulls***!! (pissed)
