2001 Mazda Protege MP3
i was driving home last night, everything was fine then made a turn the temp gauge flew past hot* and immediatley shut off. this happened at around 9 PM, it is now 930 AM and the gauge is still reading above hot. wont start. i have coolant, the thermostat i took out(thought it got stuck closed at first), disconnected the lower rad hose and the coolant is coming out the rad so the rad isnt clogged. i tried to reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for a little(2 hours!). Gauge still reads above hot. i was thinking coolant temp sensor(can cause a no start) or the ECU fried. Open to any and all suggestions. Thank you

I'm pretty sure if your gauge is reading above hot, and the car isn't running, that you have a blown fuse. Not sure which one. Someone will know though.

the car will not start tho. is it cause theres an open in the fuse causing the computer to see its overheated and causing a no start?

I believe so. Give the thread some time. Someone that knows will chime in.

yea hopefully. thanks for the insight! i had to take off of work today. figures i work at a shop have all my diag tools and s*** in my box and im stuck at home without a ride lol

Do you have an injector pulse? Do you have an ignition signal? These are things I need to know to help you.

This has to be a short in the coolant temp sensor (follow the upper radiator hose to the drivers side of the motor...grey plug brown wires) make sure it didn't come loose then trace the wires and see if anything is melted or exposed??

i pulled it out to look at it. looks glazed with a rust like color(that mustardy dark yellowish color)

edit* it was plugged in and wasnt loose

edit** nothing melted or exposed

wish I could help. I know I have seen this same problem on here many times, but I forgot what the solution was.

sad face lol. all good tho. appreciate the time taken. but if you could dig that up anyway. this guy needs it lol

I thought there was a green fuse in the engine bay that would cause the high temp signal or something.

ill check that when i get home. im goin to get some food quick(around the corner) ill be back soon to check up. i appreciate all the help. i just want my baby running again =(

the main fuse is very corroded. i ordered a new one but still dont think thats the issue. would the temp gauge being topped out cause the ECU to think its still that hot???
