I have read many threads on how to clean and protect the trim pieces but has anyone actually painted them with something like Plasti dip? I don't know how well it would turn out, but it seems me if you paint the exterior trim pieces then you don't have to reapply protectants to keep it looking new. It just becomes another painted surface and that would be easy maintenance.

That is true, though it will take a tremendous amount of masking. I have contemplated this myself using regular matte black PD topped with PD Glossifer. It may be worth it for the protection, especially for the front chin against rock chips on the textured plastic.

ive debated dipping it as well but then again there's stuff made specifically to clean/restore/preserve the plastic pieces for under $20

Someone hit my car a few weeks ago and there is a small 3inch or so deep scratch in the exterior plastic. I'm debating filling in the scratch and then plasti dipping the front plastic piece.

If you plastidip make sure you dip the whole piece. post before and after pics would be cool to see
I agree it will take a lot of prep. But I think one can probably complete the job over a weekend. If I get adventureous this summer I might try this mod. I would start with the front trim piece first to see how it turns out.
If you do decide to go forward on this project let us know how it went for you. I don't know how close of a color match you can achieve with PD? I am really toying with the idea of a matte to a satin black finish that would match the window frame color. The trim pieces now have a grayish look which I am not crazy about.

i think black pd is identical to the black plastic pieces. my rear badges are all dipped and color match nicely
That is good to know. I was looking at the differences between the trim pieces and the pillars more closely while I was having my tints installed and I could not tell the difference.

Not the most cost effective solution, nor the simplest. I foresee many vinyl wrapping novices going through roll after roll of vinyl just doing the front bumper chin.
there are plus and minus between plastidip and sticker wrap, i would say plastidip is easier to be done since its almost doing a spray on your equipment using a regular pylox, one thing bear in mind that if u want to get the job done well better leave it to professional to handle the job in sticker wrapping case, it requires precise cutting and stable hand, for novices can be quite difficult because of the bending element involved in the wrapping process. in plastidip case, u ve got to know the distance require to spray on the element plus repetitive spray to get the right amount of coverage. other than that have fun and whatever u choose it should be under ur own preference.

That looks pretty awesome. I'm guessing oracal is just a type of vinyl? Is the red pin stripe just a thin piece of vinyl?why dont u just wrap it with oracal sticker i did it using carbon type sticker and its safe me a lot of cleaning problem + plus scratches from minor bump

I'm going to try and sand it down and then fill in the hole with some sugru. If that doesn't satisfy my needs I will try to plasti dip the entire piece.
