Hey guys-

I'm getting the oil changed on my 5 right now, and the tech is trying to sell me on a $130 fuel injector cleaning service. I denied the service, but I'm interested in your thoughts on this. My car only has 26k miles, so it seems a bit premature to me.

I'd say it would be premature at 200k miles these days. You might do some good with an intake cleaning for preventive maintenance. But get yourself a can of Seafoam. To hell with paying someone else $120 for it....

Is this the dealer's tech trying to sell you this "service"?

And if the car is running fine, you don't need it. And ditto on the Seafoam if you did suspect you needed it.

I just put in a bottle of Lucas fuel injector cleaner for $6.99 at autozone, I did notice it idles a bit better and got some pep back after using winter grade gas for the last 4 months

Perfect. What does the intake cleaning entail?

Yes the car is running fine. Yes the tech was trying to sell me the service.

Sounds good to me.

The dealership recently dumped a fuel system product into the Mazda. Probably around $12 - I think I was having a weak moment. But now that I think about it, maybe my 5 idles better. My 5 was a used 2008 rental and the first thing I noticed was the rough idle - which I think has gone away.

I currently trying an Amsoil product with my Honda. Previous to this, I seem to have good results with the Lucas product. Mind you, the Honda never had a rough idle in the first place, I was mostly interested in possible fuel economy differences.
