Flyin' Miata Upgraded Clamps for BEGI

The Capri XR2 rocks. It has the Mazda BP6 Turbo engine in it. One of my friends used to have one and it was a quick little car. The only thing I can think of is that it had a lot of trim pieces and hardware that broke...pretty typical FORD stuff. The engine was rock solid though. For the money, there aren't too many cars like it. Oh yeah and if you didn't already know, you can get a hardtop for it. It was a factory option.

screw the capri and get an early miata. the capri is front wheel drive, blah. the miata will handle better, too.

Yeah, but the Capri is already boosted, so you don't have to worry about aftermarket turbo kits. A miata would be a good choice, but then he might as well go for the RX7 if he wants RWD.

yeah well, he lost the auction for the rx-7, and a miata is much easier to work with compared to the rx-7, and the capri is still front wheel drive. i'd rather drive an MGB than a capri.

Hey, who here has the FM clamps, brackets, etc.? How well have they worked out for you guys so far.

I got some of the clamps, and they work well, but I did have issues with the clamps on the IC pipe comming from the turbo. It kept slipping off. What finally worked was some T-bolt clamps. These are "overkill" as someone once told me, but I have not had a problem since. The FP clamp kit should work great. If you have any problems, then you should upgrade to T-bolt clamps. They are more expensive and available from the web.

If you've got recurring problems blowing off pipes, make sure you clean them before you reassemble. There will be a nice oil film on the surfaces, and oil tends to lubricate things. The clamps we use have been tested at over 20 psi on some of our turbo kits, so they should have no problem containing a Protege system.

As for the Capri, well, I can't recommend it. Not a good car. The earlier Miata is a much better suggestion.

What he said. Yeah, get a bottle of rubbing alcohol, and keep it handy for such things. I kept having problems regardless though. Some have not. I have all the damn bad luck.

You are using a wratchet to secure the hoses right?
I have yet to have a blow off on any hose. That with the original clamps too.

Yep, always a ratchet! Most of my issues were caused by that oil leak I had at 1st. I would clean off my pipes and silicone connectors, and still have the same problem. So I got tired of phucking with it, and bought some T-Bar clamps. No more issues.
