Expensive to lower the suspension?

Are the lowering springs all you need in order to lower the suspension? I had the rear struts replaced a short while ago...do I have to switch my struts again in order to lower it? Will cheap springs do the trick (a set of 4 for, say, $100 or less)? Do you need professional installation? I have a friend that took a community college's car mechanics course for one year...should I be able to do it with his help? Won't it look funny if I lower my car without a body kit?

just be careful, springs can wear out our struts quickly if they are cheap.
