Exhaust Padding?

Hey guys. Recently after re-attaching my off road pipe to my exhaust I noticed that as I hit the gas it jerks the exhaust a little and it hits the frame. The section that kind of bridges inder the exhaust near where the second Cat would be.

Now I was wondering if there was some kind of super heat resistant padding that I could slip int he inch that is between the frame piece and the exhaust piping? This would give the movement some padding and would get rid of the feel and noise.

Any advice? Ideas?

This probably won't help, but I've used asbestos gloves before when working with a cutting torch and such, and it would probably be good for what you are talking about. I don't know if you can just buy the fabric by itself, anyways, thought I'd throw that idea out. Good luck!

Thanks Will this will help for sure! It's just mainly that Metal on Metal sound- and the wrap will fix that for sure. :)

My heat shield rattles like mad. It is driving me crazy! It only happens right at 3,000 RPM.

Bahaha.. hmmmmm... Maybe I'm hearing that as well? I'll have to check.

But on another note- this morning while driving I was hearing ALL sorts of noise. It sounded like something was dragging on the ground or rubbing somewhere. I got on it and the car feels great- very responsive, but the noise was still there at times... I got out and looked under the car but I couldn't see anyhting hanging down or anything. It sounds like plastic. I'll keep you posted~ aha

Mine did also, the top one was banging on the turbo. The one below I just bent to hell until the rattling stopped.

Cold temp brings out some crazy noises....Everytime I start my car in the morning my exhaust rattles then it disappears. Then today while driving I heard a really scary noise...sounded like beans in a coffee can (pinging) but it was my exhaust doing some really fine vibration around 3500rpm. The guy who did my custom exhaust did a good job no doubt....I think it's mainly the cold taxing my ride. But then again anytime I hear a rattle I know it is wearing something down.....and over time will cause some unforseen damage. Also it is kind of hard to get under my car and check out exactly where the rattle is coming from...since I lowered it.

Yes I totally agree, the cold brings out the worst in car noise. On the way to work today it sounded like I was driving a garbage disposal- with my exhaust hitting the frame, the heat sheild, and the unforseen rubbing sound I still I have to find out about.

Me too! I accually just recieved some self-locking nuts, and have them installed. I had another stud break, but I craftily got it out.:D I bent the heatshield such that it is flush with whatever is under it, and also wrapped the heatshield on the fan with safety wire. Hope this works!!
