eventually want to be a MS6 owner

hey guys wats going on im jacob,

i have been wanting to get one of the cars for a while now but i have to get my car sold first,

my current car is a good ole slow 1994 ford probe gt with a CIA, hotshot headers, full custom exhaust with a hi flocat and a ACT stage 2 six puck clutch and a hell of a lot more other stuff......needless to say im tired of it and i want to start out fresh since i bought it slightly pre-modded.

i have to sell the probe first so i can put wat i make on that as a down payment for speed6. i already have a POA on what i want to the car already

so pretty much im just waitong on some one to come buy the probe.

ok here come the questions.
the bad thing about probes is that u cant rly go that much over 300Hp cause the transmission will so no to it very quickly. so the question it wat would be the weak point on the speed 6?. now im not gonna make mind blowing mods this is more of a "just info to kno" kinda thing

does mazda have a fix for the PCV? by all mean the STS is not gonna keep me from buying the car. i just want a answer for people who ask my why the hell it looks like my car is about to break down from all the smoke.

last question (for now anyways) is there a thread for all the abreveations. i was trying to find one and i can seem to find it. it would deff help me kno wat u guys are saying alot easier.lol
thanks alot guys. happy to be here and hopefully i can join the rare group of Speed 6 owners real soon

Lol my high school girlfriend's car was "rear ended" by a probe :). Had to throw that in there. A ford probe that is!

Anyway ill try to answer your q's. First of all the mazdaspeeds are not huge track monsters. You can get them up to 300 whp relatively easily and "safely." Even with light modding there are risks. Thats the way it goes. So if you wan't to be running mid 12 second passes or lower than you might wan't to reconsider your options. You said you didn't want to go overboard with your mods though but I figured I would put that out there anyway.

As far is smoking goes I would try and find a 2007 speed 6. I have an 07 and I have no problems with smoking or any of the "notorious" issues that seem to haunt many of the 06 models. Im sure many are up for grabs now that leases are ending after 3 years. Most common problems include the turbo seal smoking issue and a clutch issue with early 06 models.

Speed 6's are very versatile cars. They have AWD and a very nice balance between luxury and power. With moderate mods you can take stock sti's / evo's but do so while listening to a half decent sound system without your back aching from feeling every piece of gravel in the road. Not to mention they have a nice sophisticated look to them and are pretty hard to come by. Here in orlando I see many sti's, evo's, mustangs, etc. but I might see a speed 6 on the road once every 2-3 weeks if that. Probably see more supras around.

There is a post here with abbreviations but I couldn't find it to link here so ill list a bunch (hope this is what you were referring to anyway).

CAI - cold air intake
SRI - short ram intake
TBE - turboback exhaust (entire exhaust)
TIP - turbo inlet pipe (1st half of intake)
BPV / BOV - bypass valve / blow off valve
TMIC / FMIC - top mount or front mount intercoolers
COBB AP - cobb accessport (tuning device)
Downpipe - 1st part of exhaust right off turbo
midpipe / test pipe / race pipe - all the same thing . . . middle piece of exhaust that replaces 2nd catalytic converter.
Catback exhaust - back half of exhaust

Those are the main ones at least

thanks alot. yea like i said before i dont plan on dropping the motor and building a bullet proof motor and all that mess. i just want a car that well go when i want it to and not have anyproblem doing it...and look good doing it too. that one of the more bigger reasons why i choose the speed 6. i love the lines on it. mostly the headlights......one thing i didnt want is a "me too" car i wanted to be diffrent. and out where i live i haven't seen one speed 6 yet and thats wat i like.

as for the abreveations that wat i had in mind....i do kno most of them since im on a forum for my probe. but considering this is a diff car i figured i would look them up just to see wats diff. im sure someone will will throw up a link.

as for my POA if anyone is wondering. and i have been doing my hw (not in order)

SU rear mount
AEM CIA with a water repellent pre filter
greddy turbo timer
Boost guage with defrost vent pod
BOV/BPV not sure wat kind yet tho
lowering springs(auto exe low downs or ebaich again not sure yet)
TWM short shifter with bushing kit
and along with some minor exterior mods(wheels, emblems etc)

we'll see how it goes......have to get the car first.(hand)

Coyfish, the test pipe is the 2nd cat, not first. (thumb)

To the OP, welcome! There's lots of info to be had here. CIA, you looking for some sort of spy mod? J/K.

The PCV fix is still in the works, but right now, if you do have smoke, you'll get the 5w-40 oil, then possibly a new turbo. Not really a bad thing, but that seems to be the route they're going in right now.

For first mods, see the link in my sig, that should give you a good idea of what you can do to get started. I definitely recommend the dogbone/rear mount, short shifter, and CAI/SRI as first mods. Those definitely wake the car up and give it the extra pep you're looking for. If you can, spring for the turbo inlet while you're working on the intake. It's a lot easier to do it in one fell swoop if you can.

Turbo timers are a little sketchy. Most people agree you don't really need one, since the turbo is oil and water cooled. If you drive it hard, give it 30-60 secs to cool off before you shut it off, and you should be fine.

Springs are a great mod, but don't get Eibachs. You'll see some companies sell the V6 6 springs as MS6 springs, but they aren't designed with the extra weight and stiffer suspension in mind. AutoExe, RPM, and H&R currently make MS6-specific lowering springs that handle the load quite well.

Hopefully this is enough info to help ya along, don't hesitate to post or PM me if you have any other questions. Hopefully ya find one soon!

woops :). Fixed.

thanks steve. yea like i said the STS is deff not a deal breaker for me. its just one of those thing u have to deal that can be fixed....eventually. yea the turbo inlet would prolly be a good idea too. cobb or CPE??im sure there all the same but i didnt kno if one backed up there product more or not.

as for springs. ill most likely go with the auto exe beacuse i have the eibach coilovers on my probe now and i have had the hardest time with them. since we have the oh so wonderfull inspection here in VA they dont like coil overs that much so ill want to lower it just not to the point to where i start have problems again

Just skim a few of the stickys in each section, most of the product info is there.

For inlets, I would suggest the Cobb. The CP-e is nice, but a little more expensive, and if you do a Cobb SRI (not sure if you're planning on it), just run Cobb the whole way back and it fits nicely.

thanks man. we'll see in time. like i said i still have yet to get the car and i have to sell mine first so it maybe a lil while.
