Common Problems with Speed

I want a list, and have it stickied for all the common problems of the Speeds. I want to be able to have a quick list of problems, maybe even solutions to each so that Dealers can see it, and owners can see it.

I'll start it off, I'll edit this as anyone comes up with more. I don't know all the details to each. So correct me or give me more detail as you see fit.

I'm even thinking of having a section on each problem that states number of people effected. We will do this in a poll once we have the list made. The Poll will be open forever to keep track of the #'s.

1. Stereo

Problem: Face plate wont open all the way, or close all the way. Gets caught half way, and stops. Might not eject cd, or buttons on face plate won't work but volumn still does. May even have red screen with lines through it showing.

Solution: Try resetting it with a paper clip. Button is located on face plate next to the blue Source and Audio buttons. This is a common problem, only real solution is warranty replacement if it continues to get stuck.

2. Stereo

Problem: Sub cutting in and out.

Solution: Kenwood has admitted a problem with the wires on the in the sub coming loose. Warranty replacement available. Note: Holding down the AM button turns on/off the sub. Make sure yours is on before going to dealer.

# of reported effect owners:

3. Engine

Problem: Coolant Leak: Green fluid all over engine.

Solution: Replace Hoses and clamps.

# of reported effect owners:

4. Engine

Problem: Hesitation when driving. Car looses power at 3000-4000 rpms.

Solution: None as of yet from Mazda. Mazda has admitted that there is a problem with ECU. Basically, the Turbo is getting too much fuel. ECU needs to be updated with a fix to compensate. Some Aftermarket Products from Joe at http://www.joepmbc.com/

5. Suspension

Problem: Clunk or bang from Rear Suspension

Solution: replace rear bushings with updated part. Mazda is working on Permanent Fix. No available at this time.

# of reported effect owners:

6. Suspension

Problem: Struts Squeak when Cold while going over bumps

Solution: None yet. Needs lubrication of some kind

# of reported effect owners:

7. Suspension

Problem: Front bushings make sound while cold, and going over dips in road. Sounds like you drive over a coke can.

Solution: Replace bushings if you wish. Poly-urethane bushings are known to make noises while cold, once car warms up, it goes away. For some reason, this noise doesn't happen on newer cars or new bushings.

8. Alarm

Problem: Alarms gets triggered anytime someone farts next to car, or when a loud car drives by :)

Solution: Turn down Sensitivity. Cars are coming from dealers with the sensitivity level varied. Some at full, some not. Look under steering wheel, find a small black box ( not the bigger alarm one with Mazda written on it ) with a white knob on it. Counter clock wise turns it down.

9. Stalling

Problem: Car stalls because the hose fell off the IC. Tightened clamp, but it kept falling off when the car was driven hard.

Solution: replace clamp.

10. Tranny

Problem: Shift fork breaks, can't change gears.

Solution: take a guess....replace shifter fork

11. Engine

Problem: Noise when starting car when cold.

Solution: There's a TSB for this, take it to dealer, and get it fixed.

1: yes, happens on a monthly basis. Gets caught half-way

2:no

3:yes Very slight coolant leak hose from radiator

4: It was worse when I was stock, but still noticable.

5: Of course.

6: Its never cold in florida :)

7: See #6

8: Well, the sensitivity on my alarm was the exact opposite. It wouldnt go off even if you broke the window...

Other problem: Car stalled (had to be towed from the track) because the hose fell off the IC. Tightened clamp, but it fell off when the car was driven hard.

Solution: replace clamp
(when the coolant started leaking I replaced all hoses & clamps. it seems like this has plauged mazda since the rx7)

Wouldn't a voting poll be appropriate for this thread - it would save you all the manual work of editing your post. - just an idea :D

PM PEOPLE PM!!! Don't post results here. Too cluttered.

Just post suggestions here, like other problems, or details I forgot to mention.

And I don't need explanations... all I want is yes/no.

is it possible to keep a poll open forever?
Ask a mod, I wouldn't see why not, though. Unless the thread is closed the poll should still be going on. Just make sure to use the option to use checkboxes instead of radio buttons so users can make more than one choice.

OK, I tested it, I can have it open forever.

STOP POSTING RESULTS HERE AND DON'T PM ME !!!

I'll make up a Poll for it once we got the problems all listed.

Let's get the problems all listed....suggestions?

Problems? With the MSP? WTF are you people talking about?

(Sorry, mine was towed in Thursday and is still in the shop.)

You forgot cheap-ass shift fork that keeps breaking!!! Mine's only broken once (and NO I do NOT "slam" the car in gear. I've never driven an automatic, and I am quite able to drive a manual transmission without driving it "fast and furious". Sorry a little testy after the accusations from the dealer. :D ) but other people's have broken multiple times.

Fix: Who knows? Keep bringing it in as long as it's under warranty. Otherwise, get a new tranny $$$$$$$.

2. Radio cuts off while on no power
3.shifter makes a rubbing noise under the boot.
4.right wheel/tire sounds like it rubs when turning around

guys dont give me your results yet.

I'm trying to do this in a poll, and we can keep track of it from there.

Killer is, and I just tried this, I don't think it's going to work. I need to able to edit the poll options as more problems arise over time. Only moderators can edit polls, so this is an idea I can't do.
