Coilovers or just springs?

So I've been trying to think about whether I should just get springs or coilovers. Would it be worth it to just save for the BC's or just half ass it and go with springs? Wouldn't you eventually need struts and such once you've had springs on? Any input would greatly be appreciated.

Depends on the springs. If you go lower than a 1" drop, you should also replace the shocks/struts, IMO. At that point, you might as well get coilovers.

My opinion: if you are even thinking about coilovers...wait for the coilovers.

It's bad enough that I have the mazdaspeed springs, which are just re-branded eibachs anyway, but I am thinking about going to coilovers as well. I'm sure you'll be much more satisfied.

It depends on what you're after. If you're just going for looks and a slightly sportier feel, go with the springs. Coldspeed is right in the sense that if you change spring height too much from stock (lower or higher) you affect the dampening ability of the shocks or struts.

If you're an avid autocrosser or something along those lines, you should probably just go with the coilovers. In reality, unless you know how to tune the coilovers properly and understand how to make corresponding adjustments they're not going to do you much good anyway.

Well, there is that little issue of knowing how to set them up. Chris (blendercloud) is right on (as usual). But if you hang around the right people at the right shops and/or courses, you'll pick it up soon enough.

That, and coilovers get all the chicks...I heard.

IMO coilovers are for the track.. springs unless you enjoy wasting money!! coilovers require tuning to be an effective part.. so to me its just a waste unlesss youre going to into adjusting it alot?? most guys just seem to set em and forget em.. and thats a waste.. and yeah the mazda springs suck ass!! too low in the rear.. i went cheap with tein h-techs.. good result good price!!

Thanks for the input. I think I might just go with springs for now. With coilovers, I don't know enough to adjust and tune em just how I want them. Maybe eventually down the road though.

Either way, the result is still the same...a car that looks and handles much better.

Heck, it looks like you have the rims of choice anyway--just gotta get the body to hug 'em now.

GL with the shopping...

Thanks, I already made my choice a long time ago to get RPM Streets. Gonna get a ton of mods with this tax return coming up. I'm stoked.

Just save your money and get coilovers! Trust me! Or if you really wanna get springs... wait till you have enough and get shocks too! My .02 cents.

After spending thousands of dollars on spring and strut setups.. Save the money get a good coilover setup. I just ordered the Tein setup for my MS6 with the pillowball mounts. Cost me 1500 but well worth it I hope :)

Meh..well someones gonna sell their BC's soon so if i get tempted, Ill buy em and then maybe if i don't like em, I'll sell them.
