Hey everyone! Good to be part of the community :)

This is my first post as I am a the proud new owner of a great looking 2002 Protege5. I bought it from a friend who has done some modifications and warned me about the CEL that was periodic. He seemed to think that it was related to the catalytic converter. He told me that, to pass inspection, I would need to replace the exhaust manifold down to j-pipe and all gaskets for that. The reason was that the cat is installed with the manifold unless you wanted to weld on a new one (not sure if this is accurate). He said that the cat in this location was removed and replaced with a pipe.

However, on a lengthy drive today the CEL went off. I ran diagnostics and P0660 & P1569 was what came back after the light had gone off. I've spent some time on here reading the various threads related to these code. Not one of these mentioned the cat. Are these codes potentially related to the cat or not? What are your thoughts?

Thanks!

For the p0660 make sure all intake manifold solenoids are plugged in, wires are intact, and nothing is blocking the action of either the vics or vtcs actuators (brassy peices on the left of the manifold). I had one of my ground wires move and jam the vics actuator to where it couldn't open and I threw a p0660. Also had a p0660 when my vtcs solenoid came unplugged.
