Damn straight. They can't prove that you were racing and they probably won't go to the lengths needed to do so. So yeah, just keep on bitching and stand your ground on the "I don't race - this car is only 2 months old, give me a break" thing.

And Really not meaning to be a wanger here, but seriously, if you've got that many miles in that short time, and if in fact the tires are kinda toasted...realistically the dealer service guys probably have a pretty good reason to be skeptical about possible abuse don't ya think? I know I'll get flamed for defending a dealer but...

Ok so back to the point. I dropped my car off today and all was well until the service manager came in and said to the service advisor I was talking with that the "tires look pretty toast". That then changed the mood altogether from "sure, we'll check it out" to well "you've been racing, we're not going to cover it". After telling them that they *will* cover it since the cars only two months old and theres no way I could have burned up a clutch that quickly, their response "was Well, we're just saying.. If it was from abuse, we're not going to cover it". ******* Mazda.

Anyway, this is the first manual car I've had so the first few days were a bit rough. No stalling but I did do the whole "leave the clutch in as your rpms skyrocket before you let off slowly" thing that pretty much everyone new to sticks does. A few missed shifts now and then. I do shift pretty hard while racing, so I'm guessing the shift fork broke as that seems to be a common thing on here.

If the dealership says it's from abuse, what do I do? Insist it's not and call MazdaUSA about it? Go to another dealership? Say screw it and buy the parts myself?

Ask that asshole how long it takes for 140 Treadwear soft compound tires to wear out. Then go to tire rack and print out the reviews of the RE040's and show that **** they wear out very quickly. I baby mine and they are wearing out after 3 months! Abuse? I would show them some real ******* "abuse" if they told me that s***. Factory techs (for the most part) are WORTHELSS!

10,500 is a lot for two months, but not impossible. There was a time that I used to put on 3K miles a month on my car. And that's in my tiny state.
t3ase is from TX, big mofo state. I don't know how long his commute is or where he drives on the weekends, but if you want to go anywhere else in the state it's probably a good long drive. Besides, racing won't put on that many miles on the car, so there must be something else.

Very good point!! With just regular "spirited" driving those things will wear fast.

Alright, so here's an update. I wake up and see that the dealership has called and just have that "s**** about to hit the fan" feeling as I call back. Britt tells me that due to what the tires look like, to their eyes, this was caused by abuse. I then proceed to ask how he came to that conclusion and he talks about how the "tires are toast". I mention to him that the reviews at tirerack.com all say that the average life of these tires are 12k-15k. He says "No, that's not true" and then tried to ask why the rear tires weren't "toast" too. I told...no...I reminded him that it's a front wheel drive and rough back roads/gravel will do that. So then it's time for him to comment about the hood being dented and the front bumper being scratched. He said that it's obvious the car has been "trashed". That REALLY pissed me off and as I started to b**** about the car being only two months old, he cuts me off and asks if he has my permission to pull the transmission out completely. He explainded that if they pull the transmission and find it to be caused by a defect, then Mazda will pay for everything. However, if it's found to be caused from "abuse", then they're going to try and charge me for everthing. Including this transmission disassembly labor. I finally gave them my authorization after bitching to the service manager and hang up. Immediately I called MazdaUSA and complained to a Mazdaspeed customer service rep. They called the dealership and a regional director will be out Monday to look at the car to "determine warranty validity". What kind of bulls*** is this? If they claim it to be abuse, what's the next step I take? This is my frist new car, so I'm pissed off, confused and missing my car all at the same time. Any help?

By the way, in response to this.. I drive an hour round trip just to see my girlfriend on the other side of Austin. Then factor in the miles covered as we go out and do whatever. It adds up fast. Too fast. I was shocked when I switched from the trip odometer to the milage odometer and saw the 10k mark broken. My car is old...

just fakin with you Britt is a ok guy you just have to "talk" to him in a reasonable manner and not to get pissed off at him i speak from experence about my windshield if you be nice they will do nice things back!

you should have pointed out the fact that 140 tread wear tires that don't see regular rotation are going to show unusual wear!

I'll keep that in mind for Monday. I have mixed feelings about this. In one way, I'm thinking Mazda will do it just to shut me up as I'm not going to pick up the car until they do something about it. Then again, what's one car and a teenage driver to Mazda?

find out if that dealership is a mazdaspeed dealer!

there are exclusive mazdaspeed dealers with the right training and know how. they are the only dealers that are considered qualified to deal with any mazdaspeed issues
