ok, here is the deal, i live in an area that doesn't have very strict registration laws and emmisions aren't tested. now we all know that cats rob power. so my question is what about taking them out? now i think it will trip the o2 sensor and if it does is there any way around it? also, does it do anything negative to the car having it tripped besides the check engine light being on? this is just an idea that i thought i might be able to dig a few extra ponies out of my car without sending really any money.sure would help a cat back system by not having the extra restriction. your thoughts please...

it will still put out less polution than a 87 Chevy Sprint (proved to polute more than and ford Excursion)
oh and a Chevy sprint is about the size of a metro with a inline 3

F*** the trees

Im pretty sure that you will throw a CEL if you take out the CATS. (not positive) Try a search.

Horsepower vs. Environment

Im on the horses side.:)

no you will not throw a CEL, i have done it, as shown in my sig. The only cat that will throw a CEL is the first because it has a sensor before and after it. Meanwhile the second cat has no sensors around it at all. So feel free to get it taken out. And i also say F*** the environment for horsepower, i mean honestly there are more people out there doing worse to it than i am by just removing my cat.

I wouldn't go as far as saying F the environment. I would start by demanding car companies re introduce the orignal desgn of the Cat that SAVED FUEL! not wasted extra by being a giant blockaid and making the engine run more to compensate.

The Difference on the envirnement by removing the cat is beyond neglagable. Not to mention at our present state of pollution, and we kind of have to thank wing nuts like the guy that brought this up for this one, the Ozone will be completely repaired by 2040.

Sorry to hijack another thread but hell I can.

Keep me up to date with which sensors you remove. I really want to do a 3" the hole damn way from my turbo back.

I live in New Jersey, USA and we have very strict laws...but i believe that we only need 1 CAT to pass Emmissions...anyone from NJ know this??

B/c i would love to get rid of the 2nd cat for a few more HP!!

Actualy the second cat is actualy the only cat. The first one is technicaly a Pre-cat. Removing the second one won't do dick since its the first one that is the worst blockaid.

A simial subject is going inthe FI section.

So.....since I haven't actually installed the CAT back systems on my car yet....do these aftermarket systems mount up to the first or second cat....I'd hope the first, based off of your comments!..Peace!

NO, cat backs attach to the cat which is what you guys are calling the seond cat. Exhuast don't add alot of power on our cars at all since the first cat has an amazingly small output of like 1.7" so it is the major restricting element. All of the turbo gurus are still working out solutions of getting rid of this with out pissing off the cars O2 sensors.

Is it possible to enlarge the Diameter of the Pre-cat w/out casing problems w/ CEL ????

Sure, help screw the environment for the sake of a few more horsepower. What's the point?

I want to do the same mod...screw the enviroment, Ill probably be dead by the time it gets all messed up so I don't give a flying f*ck.

since when does trees have anything to do with this? they don't get ****** or killed by emissions... they CLEAN the air
