POST # 24 IS THE FINAL RESULT , PICTURES INCLUDED.
i have a 2002 protege5 that will receive a hiboost turbo kit and im wondering if theres anything i can do to my stock intake manifold/plennum without porting and polishing?
i searched the forum archives a bit and ddnt find anything except the 626 intake.
can some one send a link or a DIY
thx , Peter5.

its pretty much self explanitory, when u take the intake manifold off the car, take the 2 pieces apart
then ull see the two flaps, take the flaps off of the rods, you just use a screw driver, then undo the 10mm bolt holding the actuator to the intake manifold, then u can just pull on the actuator and the actuator and rod will come out together,
when you remove the VTCS, theres a pretty decent sized lip that you can port out to make it flow better or u can leave it as is

but if you have a ported head and not a ported mani, thats kind of a waste

well its not really a waste since the fuel just flow in the head.
do i have to split open to get to the VTCS or its just the flaps just before the head ?

ok so i splitde my intake and removed the VTCS. now how do i fill the hole from the shaft ?! and what modification can i do inside there ? can i cut the 2 holes into one big hole ?

JDMSam used to cut the large pieces of cast out of the IM that split the two sides together to make one big runner. or you can just gasket match everything and be done with it. make the stock IM into a single runner manifold is a PITA if you ask me so i would just get a 626 IM P&P it a little and call it a day.

oh and most ppl get someone to weld the holes up, and others just fill the holes with JB weld and smooth them over with a grinding/sanding wheel.

do i remove both flaps ? the one in the middle of the IM and the one at the head end ? what do i do with the vaccum hoses holes on the manifold ? will i get a CEL ?
and what do i do with all the electrical stuff ?
thanks.

just a thought since you can split the intake in 2 why not try to make a large spacer to make extra volume? Just an Idea that i have been thinking about.

ok so witch one is witch ?the VTCS and VICS. should i remove both ? i read about removing the VICS isnt 2 good but witch one is the VTCS ? the one in the middle of the IM or the one close to the motors head?
thx everyone , all the information is very helpfull!!

the VTCS are the butterflies that are right at the head input of the runners and the VICS are the butterflies inside the 2peice intake manifold.
I talked with wagonbacker09 about removing the VICS and he said that it will hinder your torque curve at lower RPM's. basically he told me to port the VTCS and leave the VICS!
hope this helps
