Anyway to replace heater core WITHOUT taking out the whole dash

Is there anyway to replace the heater core without pulling the whole dash out ???, I am unsure how to disable the airbags so they don't go off and someone told me its possible to do heater core without pulling the dash but some have said you have to pull it, can anyone confirm ??.

If you take the negative cable off battery and wait a few minutes (10-15), the airbag system is disabled. I have not had to replace heater core on Protege, but did on Ford Ranger/Mazda truck and dash had to be removed.

So I can just remove the negative batt lead wait a few minutes then dig right in and not have to worry, in that case I am going to have a go myself myself.
