And here I thought Gray Davis was the worst governor....

.....but NO! It's the damn governor on our MSP!

Headed down to San Luis Obispo this weekend to visit some old college buddies for the 4th, and was on a particularly long, flat, empty stretch of 101 south when I thought I would make up some time.

Put the Sparco's to the floor and quickly sped past 100....120.....130.....then WHAM! At 135 it felt like Hulk grabbed onto my rear bumper and jolted the car back. I was totally taken by surprise. When I passed 130 I though, "Oh...it looks like there isn't a governor on here after all". I've hit governor's before when renting moving vans and such, and all that happens with those is an increased resistance in the accelerator pedal so you can't go any faster. But in the MSP's the engine just totally cuts out. Damn, I hope I didn't do any damage. Has anyone else been stupid enough to do this? :D And is there any harm to be done to my car by hitting the governor (not that I plan on doing it again)?

It's the MAF sensor. This has been discussed, so if you want info, there is help! The MAF gets outside its voltage range due to increased air flow, the ECU will react. Talk to Joe (kwiktsi). I think he has a fix.

Usually when I go up around San Luis Obispo..its packed with CHP...guess they were all sleeping..

dayum yall some crazy folks....talking about racing to 130......its not worth it......

s***! thats nothin. try racing or riding in a real car while racing. you hit 160 or so you know you've got a real fun time on your hands. especially if you've still got pedal to go and you're gear limited to 179, damnit damnit damnit!!!!!! my buddy showed that Z06 a thing or 2 that night though(upyours)

Who said anything about racing? I was on an empty, straight stretch of highway, and thought I'd see what my car could do.

As for the CHP unwrittenlaw, they ARE crawling all over 101, you just have to know where the dead zones are. I've made the drive from San Jose to San Luis Obispo hundreds of times, and never gotten a ticket. The best place to open it up going south is about 15-25 miles after King City but before you hit Paso Robles. No cops out there at all, and the speed limit is 70 so at least your ticket won't be that bad! :D

But NEVER speed in King City. That's a bona fide speed trap. So drivers beware!

lol, misleading thread title...

Aww....I just noticed the edit to my title. :'( Why'd you have to go and ruin the suspense in my subject pdhaudio? Let the curious find out what it's about on their own.
