231000 miles on 1.6l protege

it has been a long time since i came to this forum.
My Mazda Protege has now 231000 miles on it
1999 Dx 1.6 engine.

a couple of days ago, the engine light came up because the car was running too "lean"...after inspection, i realized that the Air flow hose was cracked!!
so, i went to Autozone and got a new one for $35!!
Since i was doing some little maintenance, i did change the spark plug Cable, Cleaned the MAF sensor, and got a new PCV valve.
i got a new battery yesterday (last one was from 2008), and i just ordered 2 ignition coils... (spark plugs have less than 20K on them)

Also, i have the same tires since 2010 (Michelin), and they don't show any sign of aging!! (i drove from Fl to Me twice, Maine to California and California to Florida....and more!!!)

I also have a 99 Mazda Protege, with 245,700 miles. I've had the same "lean" code pop up now since Nov/Dec and it keeps coming back. So far I've replaced the battery, the spark plugs, a cracked exhaust manifold, air intake tube, and gasket. Now while sitting at a red light the idle will be sitting just below 1000 rpm and then fluctuate and jump just above 1000 rpm and go back down, sometimes it'll jumps up to around 1500 rpm instead. Have you experienced this problem before?

I only have 140k on mine and I'm having the same lean code. Got it to go away for a few days after finding a leaking vacuum hose. Reset ecu yesterday and hesitation back today. I think it's time for a smoke test.
