'16.5 Mazda CX-5 Touring
On a sales-result basis, the company's strongest-performing vehicle was the MAZDA5 multi-activity vehicle. December was the vehicle's best-ever sales month since its launch, with sales of 2,884 units, up 77.4 percent from December 2007. On a 2008 year-to-date basis, the MAZDA5 is up 60.5 percent, selling a total of 22,021 vehicles compared to a total of 13,717 vehicles sold in 2007.

Looks like it has been a good year for Mazda's "ugly duckling"!(cool)

That's a pretty decent showing especially in a car market that is on the brink.
I predict this time next year we'll have 3-4 fewer manufacturers in the market...

But getting back to the 5, the US News Reports designation as Best Car for the Money will definitely help. I'm finally beginning to spot more of them on the road.

I think this is great! It's not all from rental car company sales, is it? Though it's nice to be super-unique, I'd rather that Mazda sold a decent number of these so that they'll stay in the market. These things are SO useful; I'm glad others can see that, too.

I remember back in December of 2005 when I bought mine. I almost never saw another one on the road, now they are just about everywhere I look. I liked being unique, but I guess selling more is a good thing (group)

Well maybe maybe in Mo but they are not quite everywhere in Ca. S. California is still really dominated by Toyota and Honda. For every Mazda5 I see I probably see about 7-8 Prius, RAV4s or CRVs

I didn't see a single 5 in St. Louis during the week of Thanksgiving. I don't see many in the Denver area either. So I guess these HUGE numbers won't affect my uniqueness. I see more SMART cars and Fits!

It is still rare when I see another Mazda5 on the road, I always wave though.(hi)

I guess 90% of all the Mazda5 sales are in Independence, MO. :)

ive lived by mazda dealerships recently and they are more prevalent here.

i hope they sell a few more, so we can get more stuff for them, and cheaper.

The Mazda 5 does have the potential to be a serious player in the crossover segment but Mazda would have to start a serious ad campaign for it.

Right now, I believe most of the sales are being driven by word of mouth and press reviews.

It also remains to be seen how many vehicles Mazda USA (and Canada) can import. Haven't heard definitively but my guess that is probably one of the big reasons why they haven't marketed it.

I have only seen a few here in Chicago, when someone sees me in it they are always staring. When I told my friends I got a 5 they were think a mazda3 hatchback or the protege5, then they saw it and said oh a mini-van!!!

the dealer I take it to for service only has a few on the lot and like 500 mazda3s and mazda6s...

Same here. Just took mine in for an oil change. While waiting I walked around the lot... chatted with a salesperson. Said sales are down around 30-50% across the board except for one vehicle... take a guess.

Hence the big discounts you can get on practically all Mazda vehicles with the exception of one.... take a guess.

I never see 5s in my hometown, but my family and I just took a trip to New York City this weekend, and we saw two in New Jersey while on the way. There seem to be a few on nearby used car lots. That's how I got mine in December.

All day I see Mazda 5

Sales must be up in Canada because three people I work with have just went out and purchased new Mazda 5s.
