just thought I let everyone know that the 1.8L spark plug wires dont fit the 2.0L coil packs. Just found that out. Also MSD wires don't fit in the 2.0L coil packs either.
I have nology wires and there crapping out. My coil packs are located on the front like the 1.8 conversion. Besides the 1.8L wires not fitting in the coil packs the wires aren't long enough.
I was thinking of just getting the MSD wires and taking off the connector from the nology wires that connect to the coilpacks and fitting them on the MSD wires.
Any thoughts? What other options do I have besides relocating the coilpack and going back to stock? I don't want to downgrade to the 1.8L coils.
Does anyone have a better / more pictures of the MSP/ MP3 engine cover with this coil pack setup.
I was thinking of just cutting the edge of the cover and then I saw the same thing a couple of pages back so that's pretty comforting. Just wondering if there are any more reference photos out there.
dude, you're comparing a vette to the protege? really? the stock 2.0 liter coilpacks are not very reliable. the 1.8's are marginally better for reliability, and seem to work better with the stock ecu. the 2.0 coils seem to de better with aftermarket ecu's.
for me, it was a no-brainer to do the swap. i had a coil go out, and it was cheaper for me (at the time) to do the swap than to buy new factory coils.
the stock mazda 1.8 set-up is a good set-up, and the only real difference between the 1.8 and the 2.0 set-up is the location of the coil packs. other than that, they are pretty much the same.
