1998 no reverse at times

Hello every one, my FIRST mazda and im lov-in it but at times it wont go into reverse unless i rev it up a great deal and then it slams in to gear?

Warranty on a 98? Don't think so.

Hopefully it's just the clutch but sounds like the reverse gear's starting to go.

Duh, dyslexic me saw it as 2008???!!

Pardon my red face.

I also assumed auto. If manual, perhaps the clutch fluid reservoir is low on fluid.

Automatic transmission??
If so this might be just low transmission fluid.

If it's manual there is a higher risk that it is the internals, but I would start with transmission oil and hydrolic fluid before I change the clutch or opening up the transmission case.
