I just spoke with Lead service technician at Tenalfy Honda in my area. The 2003 Honda Accord V6 coupe mated with a 6 speed tranny has a top speed of 137.97 M.P.H.
Honda Corporation of Japan wanted the car to match or exceed 140 but couldn't because a redesigned engine would be needed with different gear ratios. If that was done the car would pump out more carbon monoxide gases and cannot be labeled as a Low Emission Vehicle II. Also the car would burn more fuel which would reduce its gas mileage. In order to keep a high gas mileage they would have to resort from a 17gal fuel tank to a 19 or 20 gal which adds extra weight.

True..True, But don't forget that the i-Vtec doesn't kick in till 6250rpms. Also i think the Accord would be even or beat the MSP in the quarter mile, but on top-end wise "i'd have to say that the MSP would rather have the power wise. BTW also i think lawerence raced a Type-S on top-end, and he said he was barely pulling on the S after 100mph, and his MSP was stock then". 200hp motor 142lb-fts of torque i-vtec, curb weight: 2767lbs put's it's power-to-weight ratio at 13.835 vs the Accord's V6's 13.604. Not to much of a difference.

I think this story is very believable. The sentra to accord comparison holds no weight. My sentra has CVTC which will pull ignition timing if it hears knock and etc. The accord's VTEC changes cam lift at certain rpms. VTEC = good CVTC= pretty much worthless.
The quartermile trap speed is a pretty good indication of the top end. Both cars are very similar. Plus the guy was drafting on him, which should help enough to give him the edge. Most likely that accord was an auto on top of it all.
