battery

Hey everybody, Just bought an '08 3s h-back a couple months ago. Now I regret not going for a speed3 but one step under isn't the end of the world... I hope to get some good advice out of these forums for mod'n it. So far its been a great car but I've noticed a couple of small issues with it...

I was planning on doing what i thought was an easy wiring upgrade, "Big 3" Have a 2004 mazda 6s, and it looks like the alternator doesnt run a 6 or 8 gauge wire to the battery, it looks like it has a wire harness that connects to it... is that true? So how would I replace/upgrade the wire...
