ztec in a protege

might as well swap in a jdm sr20...:p

why would you want to do this swap? what possible gains would you see?

the ZETEC ford and the FS mazda motor have ZERO ZIP ZILCH NADA in common in any respect. If you are looking for the 170 hp SVT Focus engine, just go turbo on your exisiting motor. The SVT Focus is slower than molasses compared to the MSP, the SER SpecV and of course the SRT4 according to mosrt sources.

what about a KLZE v6. if you can fit that sucker into an MX3 then I'd think the protege wouldnt be a bad job.

I would love to do a sr20. My homie has 450 hp on stock internals and ran a 11.9 with his first turbo, which was a t25.

KLZE will not fit into a second or third gen protege, first gen it will fit fine.

Not flaming here, but check your sources bro.

Sport Compact Car rated the SVTF third to the MSP;
A) due to their superior handling characteristics,
and B) due to the existance of a turbo.
Neither the MSP or the SVTF are 1/4 mile cars, and their
Wheel Horse Power numbers are comprable (w/the MSP putting down more torque).
The SpecV was even farther down on the list.
All lost to the sheer HP of the SRT-4.

Back on topic:
As a Zetec owner, I agree it would not only be difficult, but
useless to boot. Unless your going for sheer shock value for
shows.

Physically it will fit better in a 3rd gen pro than it would in a stock Probe GT... and actually a few of the engine mounts sill bolt up...but the V6 had more transaxle mounts from what I remember, and those would need to be custom...You are right, a PGT/MX6 LS/626 v6 front clip bolts right up to a first gen...but the KL V6's swap into 3rd gen pro's overall fairly easily (when compared to throwing in any other non FS engine)...I would think it would be much easier than a BP engine...

Most of the tricky stuff can be easily modified to fit...The shifter linkage, driveaxles, front suspension pieces are very similar from the KL cars to 2.0L pro's...But overall screw this idea...Tuning a KL V6 takes patience beyond control...I owned a PGT for a couple of years and pretty much every bolt-on available for it hurts power...The ZE is pretty much the most streetable power you can squeeze out of it before FI and/or major ECU upgrades and Major compression...

That part sucks too, those KL-ZE's are a pretty easy way to get to 175whp, and would not add much wieght overall...but the costs of all the other parts needed to get it to fit will make it not very economically sound...
