Z919 PHASE and bass

Hi,
I'm still living with the stock system in the MP3 (I have a z919). I like to hear my lows etc, but have always felt the mid range punching bass would distort way too easily. One thing I tried was setting the PHASE in the crossover to reverse on the head unit. It was like leaps and bounds better!?!? Is this stupid to do? Am I losing something else such as the highs?

In my search I did see that vegasmp3 posted some settings that a few people really seemed to like. I will try those as well. I appreciate any tips...

Chris

Phasing is not going to hurt anything. What it does is in a nut shell is when the sub normally "pushes" out it "pushes" in. it's kind of like reversing the pos. and neg. poles at the outputs on the amp. A lot of people used to do that when they'd run two subs face to face in a band pass box, one has to be reversed phase in order to keep from cancelling the sound frequencies out.

Thanks for the reply! Does this affect overall sound quality though? Like will it affect the highs etc? Would using normal on the head unit (speakers) and reverse on the sub make it sound weird?

Also, since the speaker moves in instead of out initially, do you not get punching bass as much?

I'm not real sure on how the z919's settings look since i've got an ES...but if you have the sub setting only set to reverse phase then only the sub will be affected. if it's got a setting to reverse phase all the speakers, then yeah the highs won't be as crisp or as loud. as to the sub only being reversed phase, no it won't sound weird, i experimented a little on my system to account for the crapy box that the subs in, the box is about 4 years old and had been subjected to being in a CJ-7 that had the top off most of the time for two of those years. For "punching" bass, the initial hit will be attunated slightly.

I agree that vegas had some sweet settings. I am still using them today.
As for phase, I noticed that the bass seemed slightly off (very minutely, but I noticed it) when I reversed it, so I kept it to normal setting. Try the settings vegas gave. They really do work well.
