Your thoughts on a 6 hatchback

Hi all -
New guy here. I'm looking into a Mazda 6 now (2007 or '08) and really interested in the hatchback. However I cannot find many of them (if any) at the local dealers or used. I was curious if it's because they are the most kept or if there is hardly demand for them.

Also curious on your thoughts of the hatchback vs sedan. I'm initially drawn to the hatchback because it seems like it would be easier to load sports equipment in (i.e. snowboard and such).

Thanks much for your input.

The hatchback is good looking and very useful in terms of cargo, hence probably why you don't see much of them used.

Personally, I love my hatchback. I think it has the best lines out of all the 6 trims. The amount of stuff that you can put in the back with the seats down is amazing.

I snowboard as well, and with one of the split seats down I was able to haul four people, their snowboards, and their luggage with ease.

I think they discountinued the production of the 6 hatch for 2008...which is why there are very few around on the dealer lots...They were also a pretty limited series in the first place...so they were sorta hard to find to start with...I had one for a loaner while getting some work done on my protege...and I have to say...it was a NICE car...V6 was really quick and made the car go fast...definitely faster than my protege5...It is a little too big for my taste...just a little, but that just gives you UBER more storage space....

I would get one if I could afford a new car....Also look into the Mazda5...I don't personally like them as much, but it may be a good alternative.

They discontinued the hatch for 2008? I know they did the wagon but didn't hear about the hatch. Then again I'm new to the Mazda 6 so my knowledge is limited. Can anyone confirm?

Thanks all for the replies.

They're still available in 2008. They were built and sold at volume from 2004-present and are not limited edition. I'd say one out of three 6's I see on the road around me are hatchbacks.

Is there a difference between the wagon and the hatch??? and apparantly I may be wrong about the production...IDK...I don't have one, or own one...So my knowledge is probably more limited than yours.

Okay...that 5-door thing is new to me....That's a hatchback..not the wagon...I was thinking wagon...which is discontinued...OK...I'm clear now...

I drove a "wagon"....that has tons of cargo...The hatch looks like a sedan with a bigger trunk....

Wagons FTW....

I have a sedan, I liked the lines a little better but in hindsight i wish I had got a hatch, trying to fit my saltwater fishing poles through the back of the car to the front seats is a pain.

BTW Raynman I'm one of the 6's you see around you, seen your car a couple of times in the area.

It didn't deter me from getting my Speed 6, but I was indeed disappointed that they didn't make it in a hatch. They look sportier, and have more utility. I think if Mazda had made the Speed6 in a hatchback, perhaps it would have had more success, like the Speed 3.

Love the hatchback. I chose AWD and better performance over it like most would do, but when I see a 6 Hatchback I still think it's better looking then my car. It's ok though. I still love my Speed 6. :)

The MS6 and 6 wagon were dropped from the product line at the end of 2007. Right now the only thing on lots are the sedan and hatch.

Personally, I've always liked the hatch, and I think if I had to get a 6 that wasn't a speed, I would have went that route. Theyre just mildly different from the sedan, but overall the hauling capabilities are much nicer.

For mine, I might just get the Yakima roof racks. I can fold the seats down but its a bit of a pain.
