I got to go to this event that Yokohoma held at Infinion Raceway in Sonoma. They had 5 new mustangs that i got to race around a autocross track. They provided a lunch and we got some pointers from a few driving intructors from Jim Russel Racing School.
first mustang was stock height on stock tires,
second car with entry level yokohamo on eibach springs,
third was on proxies 4's with eibach springs,
fourth was on es 100's with eibach springs,
and the fifth one was on A032's (rockon) with springs.
Round 1: It was me vs. the cones. I pulled a 58 second run, with the car understeering everyone. Some guy managed to run it in 53 seconds. (wow)
The new mustang has too much body roll. Its a huge car too.
Round 2: The second run i pulled a 56 second run. Noticed a big improvement with the tires and springs. Tried to drive a little slower, less body roll, still understeering. I think i was a little to hard on the gas.
Round 3: I think i had the wrong mentality when i was doing this. I figured i had better tires, i would go faster if i pused it harder. DOH i ran another 56 second run, but this one was funner then the last. I hella got the back end out on a couple turns and powerslid that b****.
Round 4: ES1oo's They are a pretty good tire, but my unexperienced ass kept on punching the throttle for some understeer. BoooH to my heavy foot. Time didnt improve, another 56 second run. Had more fun with the proxie 4's.
Round 5: The Yohohoma A032. AWESOMEST tire evar !!! This thing would grip like nothing i have ever tried before. Just point steer and gas it. On this run i managed a 52.87 !!!! The bad part was that i clipped a cone on the slalom.... -2 seconds... bull crap. I was used to the cars rear end slipping through the slalom, But the tires gripped to much.
Conclusion. Yokohoma is the s*** and its some of the most fun i've had beating the crap out of a car thats not mine. Tires make the biggest difference in handling of a car. I was kind of disapointed because i wanted to try out the new A048 high performance tires, but they didnt have any mounted yet. The best run was a 49 second run. The top 3 got a plackard and a yokohama jacket, NEXT YEAR IT WILL BE ME. i got a cool hat though...
