Yet another Turbo thread, not what you think though!

So you're comparing the handling of a perfectly sound car to one with issues? Seems legit.

Never had a rattling problem from steering column either. Actually only issues he had with his was vc gasket an timing chain tensioner. Which is to be expected with 200k miles. And also wheel hop was rediculous which was fixed with motor mount inserts

I'm not trying to argue but I'm just simply stating facts to your opinions.

And if you want to get technical they made cobalts for a lot longer than 5 years considering its basically a cavelier. Kinda like the Mazda 3 took over the protege and Mazda 6 took over the 626. Not quite sure what your hatred of cobalts is but have fun with that

A guy in my area did this with his second gen. Dont ask how ive only seen it in real life. He rips a 12.5 at gateway raceway in st louis.

I'd love to know how he did the fuel system. I mean everything else is fairly simple. Ie motor, trans, harness, custom axles and mounts, probably custom manifold and stand alone to bypass all emissions stuff. I mean they make bolt in kits for the Honda guys for k20s and j32 swaps and the k20s motors are on the opposite side.

Wow, I really missed out on my thread. Lol calm down guys. :) I went a looked at the msp and bottom line I'm in love! Quick enough for me all stock besides sway bars and head unit. Handles pretty good and looks good too! Needs steering wheel due to wear and needs small stitching in drives seat. Other than that its awesome! As soon as wife's car clears credit line in a week I'm going to see about buying it! I'm not looking for nice cheap car, I am a Mazda fan and like cars you don't see every day. I'm hoping for the best! And really hoping I can sell my car ASAP!

Those look thick for stock. Lol I figured that would be AF. And seems like it sit pretty low assuming that's stock as well?

your points are invalid to me as you probably had experience with only one cobalt verses me that has worked on over 1,000 plus cobalts.

Cavalier and cobalt are totally differnt cars. totally different. The cavalier was phased out as the design was aged and ten years old.

mazda 3 and protege....totally different cars. 3 is a hell a lot more reliable..nicer to drive...nicer interior.

again your points are invalid as I state facts and not opinions. Chevrolet had a tsb (I believe a recall at one point) for the steering colums. A cheap/temporary fix was to take off the steering column shaft and rotate it 15-30 degrees.

Cobalts have different suspension...better auto/stick combos. still junk front end. If you never EVER had to replace struts early, sway bar links very early, or the control arm bushings very VERY early, by god you have the ONLY one out of hundreds of thousands without that problem.

Also. Dont ask me about the 2.3 swap..I'm not too sure. all I know is its in a 2nd gen....it rips.

are you going to tell me that cruze's are cobalts now? or are you going to let that slide?

man...this is getting interesting.

I dont hate cobalts...the one we drive we have had all over the country already. to vegas (2x), michigan, pennsylvania, florida, SC, and of course missouri over a thousand times. its the reliable car as far as road trips go...but...again the front end is junk.

also the damn thing never handled well around corners. just like the SS cobalts that have over 70k...with torn LCA bushings...

ours started tearing at 52k, then again at 71k (after going over some of the deadliest railroad tracks) and again at 88k. this time I put poly bushings in...they seem to be holding well. My 03 protege is 5 years older than the cobalt and have the original bushings/ball joints. they are holding up great.

Cheap cars have their faults....and again cobalts have junk suspensions. SRT4s seem to be the only stout stock turbo car on the market....

OP: I knew you would like the MSP. They're fun. Now jump the ball and snag it before somebody else does. they're fun machines...just keep up on maintenance.

My next car after the protege appears to be a Nissan next. I dont hate mazda either...mine has been a pain in the ass...but it always starts and drives when I need it to.

EDIT: The Model Years for the Chevrolet Cobalt Started late 2005 and ended late 2010, to roll out the 2011 model year cruze. No end is near for the new cruze. The cruze gets 41 mpg compared the 30 highway I get in the cobalt.

Oh I am a maintenance freak on my cars! When I buy my cars all fluids get changed first week! And wife says I have to sell my car first. So I have posted it everywhere! I want that car so bad I wanna camp by it so nobody will buy it. Lol if I can't sell my car in a couple weeks ill prolly keep it and deal with the fact I bought wrong car in first place.

I'm too lazy to look at the original post...but what kind of car do you have now?

EDIT: If you have a carmax near you and have a clear title, I'd try them. They pay decent to buy your car...

Obviously you've never seen the sway bar bushing and end link issues of a protege, I replace at least one end link every 2-3 months. Not to mention at least it's safe to take a hard turn in a cobalt without worrying about the bad oil pump starving the engine of oil and spinning a rod bearing, and don't even get me started on the retarded rear caliper. Not that it's any worse than the captive ones on my 323 that the hub has to be removed just to change a rotor

Never said they were the same just that there was a redesign and name change, kinda like what for does with the mustang every 10 years. But to a normal person a cobalt and cavelier could probably be confused

srt4 doesn't handle nearly as well as the cobalt ss or someone couldn't drive theirs, how ever the amount of power stock internals and drive train can take is just rediculous

With an intake cat back and tune he averaged 34-36ish mpg on the rare occasion he was easy on it

All I was trying to say was having driven both with neither having any mechanical issues the cobalt ss suspension was almost or just as good as my mp3 although way stiffer and a bit uncomfortable for daily driving. Stiffer as in hitting any kind of bumps was rediculous

I have a 99 Protege LX 5 Speed no heavy mods. Just suspension really. A couple of odds and ends that look good. No engine mods. I have a sri but don't use it due to issues with the intakes on a 1.6 and I have roughly 140k on it. Have it posted for 3500 without wheels knowing someone will down talk me on it. So in hoping for at least 3k for it. It's well worth 3 that's for sure. There is a carmax somewhat close to me. I guess if I get time I will go check them out.

I will be putting stock steels back on it before sale. Lol. Just read my post an made it sound like I was selling it on blocks. Haha

Ok, I'm going Tuesday to talk to bank about buying msp! Super excited! And thanks to everyone that has helped out in deciding on cars. Just hope things go well at dealership. Getting money is not the hard part, getting dealership to come down on price is the fun part.

You could always trade your car in on it. But a trick I learned from a dealer ( dude was awesome, let me test drive the turbo optima for s**** and giggles) negotiate the price on the car first and get them down as much as possible. Do some research and find some cheaper priced ones with similar miles. Once you get the price down as much as possible then throw in that you want to trade your car in, if they ask you before hand if you have a trade in tell them no

Well it took me 24 hours but I was able to sell my car out right. Lol so ill be putting that down on the msp and hoping ill be driving it home Tuesday! :)

Xtreme Velocity: CONGRATS! remember always to try a credit union first. They have THE BEST auto loan rates and have a higher loan approval rate. Just take a folder with all the info...pictures...etc of the car and show the loan officer. I am sure they will help you out the best they can.

You shall post some pictures of the beast...I want to see it!

The only bank I use in a credit union. Been using them since I was 16. They have always been real good to me. Just hoping for everything to go smooth Tuesday!
