Yet Another Noise In Our CX-7... the door.

Yep, our CX-7 clunks a lot. Turning, braking, and now the front passenger door has developed its own sound.

It sounds like something is binding/rubbing. Not quite metal on metal, but metal against plastic.

It happens when we accelerate from a stop, but once we're moving we can give her gas all we want and it won't creak. And it creaks when we come to a stop. Guess it sort of happens when there is a shift in weight(?).

It seems to come from the front passenger door, about midway down (around the latch area), but it's hard to pin point. I don't feel any physical binding or rubbing on the door when it is opened or closed.

I checked to see if the hinges and door latches were loose or shifting and, therefore, rubbing. Does not appear to be the case.

Could the door latch just need some greasing? Might it be the metal loop (striker?) that holds the door closed (sorry, don't know the technames for it). What grease/lubricant should I use?

If I push out on the door when the car is moved (wife is driving :) ) I can silence it. If I latch the door loosely the noise does not occur.

Anyone experience a similar situation on their CX-7 or other vehicles?

I'm a bit of a noise freak, but when my wife complains too then I know I'm not just being overly picky.

Thanks,
Emgee

hmmmm i say take it to the dealership... my front passenger door is making the same kinda noise if i open and close the door.. going to take it to dealership next time i do oil change..

Hi Guys

Thanks for the input.

I did take it to the dealership late last week for an oil change and mentioned it.

Apparently, a number of bolts were loose on the latch, striker plate, and hinges.

It still creaked somewhat afterwards, but I lubed the hingers, latch and strikers and it seems all quiet now. Here's hoping it stays that way! :)
