hey dex,

it's glad to see that at least one person got their msp this month ;p yeh, i'm still waiting for mine. i've been having mixed thoughts lately about the car...wondering if i'm making the right choice now. maybe you can reassure me that i am and make me feel better.

anyway, you getting the hang of driving a stick? :) were you able to get any freebies or able to bargain at all? lemme know. have fun and take more pics!

Don't give up

This car is rewarding! just wait your turn, I thought mine would never come. But be patient and become one of an elite group of original owners. Ths car reminds me everytime I get in it how worth the wait it was.

man, the car is very, very cool. the paint is so ******* awesome, theres like blue and green sparkles in the sunlight and i just got back from driving again.

let me just say, if youre in a snowy area, GET SNOW TIRES. omg i went out tonight on the stock tires and holy s***, thers only a little bit of accumilation, but its like god damn ice skates. i was sersiously going about 5mph and skidding in some areas

i got the hang of manual fairly well now, and this car PULLS (fyi it pulls compared to every other protege ive owned, so please done be like oh the car doesnt pull s*** compared to my twin turbo 300zx :) ). its so awesome. i never even had WOT and you can still feel it pulling.

sound system: dunno, really. it sounds okay, pretty average, but i have not had time to play with the settings yet, so i assume that will make everything sound better.

handling? well, i dont know that either. the current conditions dont allow for any wild s*** and even if there was no snow, im still getting used to the car and stick and everything. i think i heard the clunk though. my friend was with me in the car, and i go, you hear that sound? and hes like "yeah, that clunk noise" and i just started laughing.

the rims are ****** badass!!! i love them so much they are really cool, mazda center cap and everything. even the tire nozzles have metal caps and s***. very nice.
the interior is very nice too, and i dont know what people are saying when they are complaining about "not enough lateral support", cuz its just fine for me. and also i havent experienced any turbo "drop offs" or stuttering. boost is very addictive :D

uhh i wish it was morning now and no snow and i had some better tires for the weather. wait its almost 5AM. thats morning :D

I understand what folks are saying about latteral support. When you get a chance to hit some corners, you will understand that the handling on the car outdoes the ability of the seats to keep you fimrly planted. You will have to readjust your body.

i see. i could surgically sew myself into the seat

i dont even have a garage to put it in yet. theres too much s*** in there right now and i want it in there

Oh dear, that's got to be the quickest bushing deterioration I've ever heard of.
There must be something else at play. The bushing wouldn't wear down that quick from the dealership. Is part of the problem the sway bar metal itself shrinking in the cold and causing excess play?

finally!

dex,
congrats man. finally you got yours. u drive it home from the dealer? maybe no excuses so we can meet up. heh.

about damn time man! which dealer u buy from?

Yes........ Again, and I repeat; I love my MAZDASPEED. It worked out well for me, however. Both Mazda dealers in Memphis had a Black Mica, so I purchased from the dealer that offered me more for my trade ('99 Nissan SE Limited), and got my payments where I wanted them.I got a great deal - no question. It just turned out to be the same dealer my wife bought her ES from last September.

I haven't heard any clunking yet, and I have no regrets. This car rocks! This past Thursday evening, the odometer turned over 1,000 miles. My son is coming over this morning for brunch, so I'm taking him for a ride. He hasn't seen it yet.

As I have already posted, I did purchase an Escort Passport 8500 Radar Receiver on Friday. I read many, many reviews, and tests, and my conclusion was that the V1 is not worth the extra $100. If I thought so, I would have purchased it. Just my opinion, however. One must remember, even having the best radar detector is no guarantee against a ticket.

In 1986, I owned the original Escort Passport. Before that, I owned the original Escort. I was out driving late one night, no one else on the road, and I came over a rise, and got nailed with an Instant On Radar. Yeah! I was pissed. $92.00 ticket. Then; to add insult in injury, 2 weeks later, the Passport was stolen from my car while it sat in the driveway. $300 + the busted passenger window ($100) down the #$*%ing drain!! Ha! Hey folks!! That's the reason the Passport was originally designed - so you can take it with you (like bringing it in the house at night if you have no garage!). I was mad as hell at myself for that. And; I usually always brought it in.....Lesson learned!

Until buying the Passport 8500 this past Friday, I haven't used a detector since then. Have I gotten a ticket since then? One; back in 1989. I was coming up an entrance ramp off the highway, and a cop was sitting in a drive entrance about an 1/8 mile up the road; so before I had a chance to slow down from the 50+ I was travelling, I got nailed. Again; late at night.

What I'm going to say below, many of you already know......

For all of you that are considering a $300 detector (or $400 for a V1), or any radar detector for that matter, be aware that if you are traveling with little other traffic on the road, you are indeed, more susceptible to getting shot by radar. Instant On Radar is deadly to you if you are the only car in it's path.

The beauty of such detectors like the Passport 8500 or Valentine 1 is their ability to detect so far in front (and behind). So with that said; if you have any cars at all in front, they might be getting pulsed by Instant On, and your superior detector will pick this up and warn you in plenty of time. But, on the other hand, if you're travelling over the speed limit (alone), and a cop is sitting ahead, and pulses you with his Instant On - it's too late. Laser (Lidar) Radar is pretty much the same story. Both of these detectors I mention, do detect Lidar.

Bottom Line: Just be careful with any detector. They are fun, and yes, you want to go out and search for traps (part of the fun!!), but exercise caution. They can be very effective, and you can reduce driving time, but don't be stupid.

Are the (good ones) worth the money? Yes; I believe they are. Is it worth spending $300 for a Passport 8500 over $100 for a less expensive detector? Again; yes. Here are a couple of links & reviews....
