relax guys, not every 5 door is gonna be a P5 knock-off. Granted they all have similarities but mainly because, well they're 5-doors. Yes the Kia was a dead ringer for the P5, but this Audi, other than the windows looks nothing like the P5, other than the fact of it being a 5-door

BMW's answer...

How about this from BMW...

i saw one the other day and wasn't impressed. it passed me on the freeway and from the rear quarter view, it looked like a chrysler pacifica. the windows looked way too small. i'm sure it's smooth, quiet and relatively quick, but it ain't no protege5 in the looks department.

To me, the A3 Sportback looks more like a 4 door version of the R32, from the side at least. The lines on that and the BMW don't remind me of the P5, the Kia does.

consider it flattery that they may look like the 5.. especially the Audi. :D

You guys should know that Kia paid for design rights from Mazda. That makes it a legit car, not a rip-off.

good point.... plus, we can't hate on Kia for jumping on a good design and a popular style... since mazda came out with the 3 they had no use for the p5 design any longer.

Just because hatchbacks are suddenly cool again in the US doesn't mean they haven't been around in europe and asia for almost 30 yrs.

I like the new Audi, its like an A4 lite, especially considering the A4 prices keep climbing.

yeah, I had my S3 a couple years before the Protege5 was introduced (and a couple years before I ended up with a P5)... Mazda took multiple design elements from others as well (err... IS300 Sportcross anyone?) so its not like this wave of 5 doors was wraught solely by the the imagination of Mazda and descended from the P5. the only thing Mazda can really lay claim to is using others designs to create an even better design (the P5) only to abandon it before the public could really grasp how cool it was :(
