In NorCal here. I've gone through every car I want and the Protege 5 is it.

Unfortunately I can't find the right car on Craigslist. So I'm coming here, hoping that there's one around with reasonable miles, the right kind of suspension work (or stock suspension at a low enough price that I can do upgrades).

Color is not important; physical proximity would be nice. Hope someone can help!

Cheers,

Chris

i have a msp for sale check my thread - 03.5 blazing yellow msp - WI
I'd be into it, but the wife doesn't want anything with big wings (I'd have to take it off), and it's a long way to travel.

I wish they'd made a Mazdaspeed 5 - would have been nice. I really do like the wagon... it's funny that I've spent way more energy trying to find a good 5 than I would have spent getting an msp (dunno)

Thanks though - good luck with it!

no problem but if you do want a slick car, contact me.

I guess I'll give myself a bump, just so people know I'm still looking.

It's funny, I could have bought about 10 different msps, here or on craigslist, but I can't find a decent p5 for the right price (sorry Empire ;) ).

Shame you are on the other side of the country. I'm about to put my Protege 5 up for sale as I'm going to be purhcasing a speed3. Red, 5 speed, chrome factory rims and a 5 speed trans. 75K miles, great condition, and averaging 32 to 34mpg. But I'm in PA.

Shame indeed. Out of curiousity, why switch? You just want what the msp has to offer and don't need the wagon?

I would think it would be more fun to do suspension and a turbo on the wagon, but I guess that does get expensive....

Actually the Speed3 is a wagon. Love mini wagons. I really want the 260+HP and the speed3 is a comprimise between my wife and I as I recently received a promotion and was looking at picking up a used corvette but we're really not at a place where we can have that expensive of a vehicle and not be able to get any of our girls in it. The protege5 is great in that I can get my 3 girls in the back, 2 in boosters and 1 in a child seat so i assume the speed3 has as big of a rear seat.

I'd love to upgrade the protege5 but without major work, it would never get anywhere near the speed3 in HP.

Check - sorry - msp3 is a whole different car. I actually test drove one and, while I love the way it looks and love it on paper, found it wasn't really that much fun to drive (personal opinion, probably sacriligeous). Too much torque steer. Wish it was RWD...

Damn! Looks like exactly what I'm looking for but I'm in Nebraska. I am also finding that good condition 5 speed Protege 5's are hard to find.

..

I think I may have found one 150 miles away from me. (wiggle)

Its a 2003 Black, manual, with 108,000 miles being sold by a dealership. Clean title, no wrecks, very nice condition. They are asking $7950. Do you guys think $7500 would be a good price for such a Protege 5? That's what I'm thinking about offering.

That's kind of a lot for that high mileage. $7500 would be fair for both sides, but I'd probably start by offering $7000 and being firm on the offer so they can see that you're very interested. Sooner or later, they'll come down and meet you somewhere in the $7500 range.

Good luck!!

It looks like $7500 is what I'll pay. Woot! New daily driver. Now I can sell my rust bucket 88 CRX and drive something a little safer and more fun to drive. It sucks going from an Integra Type R to an 88' CRX HF. This should be a better transition.(rockon)

If all goes well, I'll be picking up the PR5 on Saturday
