While I agree that the OE tires are lousy, you can find reasonably priced used wheels on eBay or local craigslist. There are always people who don't like OE wheels and want them replaced.
Bridgestone's business strategy is like the printer business.
They sell tires cheaply to automakers, and hope that the customers will continue to buy the same tires when it comes time to replace them (and it works on many who don't bother to research on tires). Therefore, you will see that the OE tires are not cheap at all to buy, but automakers continues to use them.
I recommend Yokohama Spectra-X, which got very good reviews for lower price than the OE Dueller 400.
