WRX STI Threat?

Hey,

I'm really bent on ramping up my stock MS3 as soon as i take delivery.
So far, i'm being advised to do these mods:

CAI, Catback, IC upgrade, computer upgrade, rear engine mount. With these mods alone, can i outperform a stock WRX STI? Also, how many also recommend downpipe & high flow cat converter on top of the other upgrades? I'm willing to spend to rule the road..... 'show we're supreme.

Thanks.

You won't see gains with just a catback. All the airflow restriction is before the 2 cats. Highflow or testpipe will get you the gains you are looking for. Faster spool time and hp/tq through rpm will improve. 3" should be what you are looking for.

Get a turboback instead of just a cat-back. Might as well get the whole thing first. You'll notice the difference instead of just a cat-back. But yeah, all of those mods would do good.

how are you measuring how you're going to beat the sti? 1/4 mile? 1/8 mile? road track? autox? street racing?
1/4 mile those mods should catch you up to a stock sti
1/8 mile a stock sti will beat you with those mods
road track an sti will probably beat you
autox an sti will probably beat you
street racing who knows because it's an activity with so many different variables that it can vary from race to race. potentially you should be able to beat an sti from a roll and from a dig, depending on how long the race is. however things could happen like people running into the street that you have to swerve to avoid or those stupid other cars on the road getting in the way so it's tough to tell for sure

It would be a close race with those mods until you start approaching 130 mph but I hope the race is over by then.

What are you looking 2 outperform it in. Most people only care about drag racing. But if that's your only concern, all you'll need to beat one from a roll would be an (CAI). From a dig you will atleast need some good sticky tires, CAI, Testpipe, downpipe, MM's=(Motor Mounts)

The MS3 modded and STI are fair contenders but, who the hell leaves a STI stock. The 08 STI looks like a beast compaired to a MS3, quoting scc mag it should be "absolutely demonic". I was going to wait for the STI but the extra 11 grand and the same ability to lose my drivers license made me choose the MS3 on the fun and cheap.

Not that it is a big deal, but the MS3's top speed is 155 and it is electronically limited. It fact, Automobile magazine took one on the autoban and got it to 162. So apparently, it isn't 155 either.... It certainly isn't 151...

Well, I had encounters with two STi's on Wednesday. Granted, I have a downpipe and racepipe, but the first one sneezed at me on the highway and appeared as though it was a full stage 2. He cut in front of me and once traffic cleared out, downshifted and floored it. I romped on it and had to keep letting off as to not rear end him. Once the other lane was open, I moved over and started to pull around him, but there was more traffic ahead, so I let off.

The second STi appeared to possibly be stock, but I don't know. He flew by me so I caught up, paced him, then I got on it a little to show him I wanted to play. He gladly accepted and twice we ran from a 45 MPH roll. The first time there was traffic ahead, so we only went to about 100 and I had aboue 2.5 cars on him. The second time we went at it a bit longer and I was able to pull 4 cars on teh STi.

Very nice. I wish Mazda offered a downpipe. That would be so sweet not to have to worry about the warranty.
