What exactly would double clutching have done for you? All downshifting would have done is upset the balance of the car even more, and could have resulted in you hitting the pole with the driver's door first. Don't second guess yourself, these things happen. Be glad you didn't hit some old lady and her poodle on the side of the road, and that you aren't in the hospital with a brain bleed. Relax, take a breath and enjoy life. They build other cars, they don't build extra arms and legs and stuff - yet.

Very well said! All I can add is that you should thank God that you are still alive and well. Life is precious... treasure it.

But really, I'm glad you're ok..

your dad will be happy you arent hurt.. trust me.. he will calm down.. dont worry about it.. just be glad your ok

yeah, ive been in a few car accidents...my dad was always fuming at first too...but then after everything got settled...he calmed down quite a bit...we have had a few laughs about them...
lets see...sorry to jack the thread but...
1st car 1991 acclaim...got it in 97...
rear ended someone...i was 17 and checked my blindspot like i was told to in drivers ed...car stopped...bang
next...i was driving through a department store parking lot and someone pulled at very quick and ran right into the passangers side of the same car...fun
then i hit a dear at about 1 in the morning...then it was snowing and the car in front of me slammed on the breaks and they started sliding all over the place...i tried to stop, couldn't, tried to go around them and then all of a sudden they pulled out in front of me and i hit their tail light...not too bad
all within 2 years...all in the same poor car...it was soo nice too...it was in perfect condition and i only paid 2000 for it and it only had 35000 miles... :( oh well...my dad was majorly pissed everytime...and everytime he has laughed about it later...and my dad isn't a fun guy most of the time...
good thing is i havn't been in an accident since except for going into a small ditch like 3 years ago...
good luck...

Dude! I just saw this thread, so sorry to hear about it. I hope your dad hasn't killed you yet :) I hope it works out for you.

I know how you feel...man...
I had big accident(worth $5000) with my old civic..and I was scared not because of accident but because of my parents...:(
however, as long as you are ok, everything will be ok.

Don't go beating yourself up over what you should have done differently or "if I only did this...". Trust me. I've been there, and it only makes the sad feelings drag out longer. Like the others have said, be glad that you, or anyone else was not seriously injured.
I totalled my '92 240SX ($4500 in damage), and wrecked the MSP($8400 in damage).
Everything will work out. :)

Well you were here to write your post and thats what counts. It just too funny how parents react at first. Its sad that the first thing kids think about after they get out of situations like this is about their parents getting pissed, and thats the last thing kids need right now. Parents and future parents need raise there kids better then that. I know anytime I f@uk up first thing in my mind is what my parents are going to say.

There needs to be a "Get out of being screamed at by parents card." You just hand that to your parents, and tell them its this or a body bag.

The negative in this isn't fixing or replacing the current car - insurance will take care of that. The issue will be the hike in insurance costs going forward. Insurance companies really don't like people who get into single car accidents.

My son had similar problems (totalled his VTEC del Sol) and my first response was "Are YOU OK?", and then, you're paying for any increase in insurance costs. No yelling, just natural consequences. Then a couple more speeding tickets and my insurance company says they are cancelling me unless he is specifically excluded from driving any of my cars. A couple of years with insurance payments higher than car payments calmed his driving down a bit (marriage and a mortgage probably helped, too) and now the exclusion is gone and he can borrow my car again.

Just remember you're LUCKY to be alive, so learn from it.

be happy you and no one else got hurt! cars, you can rebuild them or buy new ones. a life...still hard to replace!

Ouch... but not too bad for a rollover, didn't break any glass! Anyway, glad you're okay :)
