Would you trade your RX-8 for a MSP

rx-8 is more luxurious and a clean pimp ride. Evo is a racers car. People who want to go real fast but not too worried about style opt for an evo. AWD is fun, but the rx-8 interior is just too nice.

Shaolin--- you traded your msp for an rx-8 im assuming? Are you happy you did?

Absolutely...to be honest with you I was real attached to my MSP but I was offered an incredible deal...if I could I would have kept both cars, but we can't have our cake and eat it to you know...

The 8 for all the mentioned reasons is why I don't even think about my old MSP anymore. In alot of ways it reminds me of the MSP, except on the next level. A bit of an underdog against some of its competitors, but much more finesse and style. Just what I want out of a car.

I test drove the 350Z last week for the hell of it. It felt a little quicker than the 8, but when I got it out on the open highway, it felt the same, if not less quicker throughout the powerband. You could really feel how heavy it was, and that it wasn't as composed in cornering. Great car, but just not for me. While I'm sure it's still around half a second faster than the 8 in the quarter, I don't care about quarter mile times by the way, but the 8 just "feels faster." Much like the MSP feels faster than it's competition. It must be the signature Mazda responsiveness, crisp steering, riggid chassis, and overall feeling of being light on it's toes. Still loving the 8.

Close within the 8's pricerange you'll find the EVO, 350Z, and STi. I like to think of the STi and 350Z as meat cleavers, the EVO as a really sharp meat cleaver, and the RX-8 as a scalpel. I think it's a fitting analogy.

By the way Bryan check around on different insurances if and when you trade up. You are likely to save alot of money on a car with a 1.3 and 4 doors.

In the latest Consumer's Report they don't recommend the RX-8 (same for Mazda6) b/c mechanical probs... Maybe they are too new...

I saw that, too. New model, new problems. I personally wouldn't buy ANY car that didn't have two or three years in production. Remember the 1980 camaros? Everyone I knew who had one had the inside door handle break off. They finally got it right in '82, then changed the whole car in '83.

The RX-8 and EVO are aimed at two totally different demographics. You won't get very many people cross shopping the EVO and the RX-8. Two great cars for the money, but not similar AT ALL.

This is so true, I wouldnt trade my EVO's for anything. I mean ANYTHING I just love the car, and you will find that anyone that gets a car they really, really love, it doesnt matter what they drive they still love there car and the connection it gives them.

But to ref shaolins comment they are aimed at two diffrent people, aside from the literal connection of price and sorta same power range, there are diffrent types of people that buy the cars. Its really a type of persona to the car. Example people in the evo, or wrx world tend to stay, well in that world. Its a rally thing, even though there are the drag racers etc, thats just common to america in general. But like I said its a persona to the whole thing, I cant stand the RX-8 (though I wont talk bad about, its just not my fancy and never will be) I have alot of respect for the 8 or 350z I just dont like that feel of car thats all. Again im not trying to say mitsu or subby will smoke an mazda or nissan (namely the rx-8 or 350z) im just agreeing with shaolin in saying there just diffrent cars.

Yeah check out RX8club.com

This is mainly with RX-8's manufactured before Jan '04. Alot of bad cats, and flooded engines. Nothing that the new "M" flash and warranty couldn't fix.

Hahaha, awsome.

I love the rx-8, but given the choice between a top of the line 8 an a Evo MR, I'd take the mitsu any day of the week. When the rx-8 gets really steady aftermarket support and proves what it can really do, then that opinion might change.

But I do love the rotory on the freeway. It just revs forever, lol. The only car I've driven on the freeway that felt as quick as the rx-8 was a supercharged 6-speed mustang, but I hate mustangs. They just have th whole american cheapness thing goin on. The Wenkel just loves freeways. Period.

do you know how expensive it is to have a rotary worked on and even how scarce a decent mechanic is and also the life expectancy of a rotary isnt all that great!

If you knew what you were talking about you'd know that FI rotaries, namely the FD3S, and Turbo II FC3S were known to blow apex and side seals before 100,000 miles.

The NA rotaries have been known to run strong beyond 200,000 miles. The RX-8 Renesis has the most powerful NA rotary to date. It is expected to run well beyond NA rotaries of the past.

tell those guys life expectancy is low.
