My friend had one on his manual car. He overrode the neutral start sensor thingy and promptly wrecked his mom's washer and dryer in their garage by starting his car in gear. needless to say, he took it off.

LOL Good point. Maybe I should stick to running out and freezin :D

Better safe than sorry...

Of course, if you could find a way to tie it in to the clutch switch, shifter switch and parking brake switch all at once, then you could probably do it safely.
With all the crazy-stupid computer controls on the body functions, I wouldn't want to mess with it, though. (screwy)

I do have a remote starter on my 2004 Mazda 3 Sport GT, and it's a 5 speed.
Got the dealer to install it, but they outsourced the job to a car electronic/performance shop.

How it works:
Stop the car.
Press the brake dedal, and lock your rear wheels using the parking brake.
Remove your feet from the brake pedal.
Ensure the stick is in neutral.
While the engine still running and the key in the ignition, I press the engine start button on the remote. Lights will flash a few times.
Then, remove the keys from the ignition, and only then open the door and exit the car.
Close the door. Note that the engine is still running, without the keys.
Once your done piking up your gear, ensure all doors are closed.
Finally, press the door lock button on the remote. The doors will lock and the engine will stop.

The next morning, press the car start button, et voila. Still need to press the door unlock button to get in the car.

May seem like a pain, but it's not. Work extremely well. Love it. Specially during the -30C winter days! (cabpatch)

CompuStar and few other companies make one for mtx cars... The only difference is that you must be in neutral and have e-brake up for the remote start to work. They make it for auto too but the only down side is that you can't buy it online(unless its used). You have to go to certified dealers so you can get the life-time warranty. AND its EXPENSIVE compared to Viper and other remote start with lcd display alarms.
