would this be a downgrade?

man i'm really digging the new miata (09)
dealer near me has them for 5k off msrp right now
09 grand touring with suspension (500) and premium package (1600)
msrp 29,199 for 24,199
i KNOW It's not fast, but i'm sure there's gonna be some flyin miata
turbo packages coming out :)

and i could care less if people think the miata is a gay car
i do like the s2k but i'm sick of their elitest attitudes, it's a honda guys cmon now. i did find a CR for 28,900, leftover 08 stock on s2ks.

but im leaning towards the miata
all these people blowing the ms3 motors is beginning to worry me (sadbanana)

Its not a downgrade at all man, in fact its a sick track car. But personal tast between the s2k and miata, id go s2k. Easy to mod and a huuge market for it.

you really shouldnt worry about blowing up your engine. take care of it, and dont mod the hell out of it, and it should be fine. and your engine would be more vulnerable in a turboed miata over this anyways.

as for the miata, I dig em'. I hate how people think that they are gay, but I have really begun to like them. For my purpose, the MS3 is what I need.

its your money, just make sure you do what you want

I'd love to have a Miata, but they're not very practical, and not very comfortable on trips, from what I've read. The Speed is much more versatile, and tolerable on trips.

I can vouche for that, I drove mine from one side of the country to the other over the course of 3 days. Never got sick of the car once and probably would have hated it in any other car I've ever owned.

Still, even though I'd never give up the Speed for one, if I had the money, I'd buy an MX-5 as a second car.

yea maybe i'll pick one up as a second car, i don't think it being a DD would bother me much as my work commute is ~14 miles each way. i just like how the 09 + looks
the smile works on the miata, but not on the 3.

on a side note, going wot on the onramp this morning to work made me realize i would miss boost way to much for now.

i like s2k's but the simple fact is they get slashed/broken into all the time. miata's not so much if at all. plus all the reviews i read, everyone says the s2k is faster but the miata is way more fun to drive. i have yet to drive a mazdaspeed miata, i think that would be a fun little car to toss around.

I can promise you there is no funner car to drive then an s2k... drive both then decide. i am almost positive you will go with the s2k

Miata is great car no doubt..just make sure its a car that fits your lifestyle. I myself prefer s2000 over the miata..but miata is still a fantastic car. Might wanna looking into deals on rx8's too..they had this 09 blue R3 rx8 at the dealer..just while back back they were selling or like 35,000...this one has asticker price of 31,000 but its got like 5000 rebate on it..thier trying to get rid on the 09's so yeah..I dont like the power drop..but damm those R3 rx8's are sexy!..so getting 1 for say 26000 is pretty nice haha.

Have you driven a first gen miata... I dont think so.

It's not a downgrade. I own a miata too and they are fun stock and boosted. I dd my miata and take it on long road trips. Gotta be smooth enough for old ladies to drive them, right?

It's not a downgrade... but nearly 30k for a miata is quite a bit. This might sound a bit off, but bear with me. I would get a CPO or lightly used Mazda3 for commuting purpouses, then stick the remaining money into a first gen Miata project car.

your definition of downgrade would be much different from someone else's. you won't get the acceleration, but the turns are simply fantastic. imagine like when you were a kid and you drove a go-kart and imagined how awesome it would be to take it on the road (at least that's my story) the miata is that dream come true

i had a 2nd gen with the optional hard top, and big plans that never really got off the ground. but it was so much fun.

now with a wife and kid there's no way i could own one for practicality purposes. but if i were to get a car that i would own with no other purpose but to soup up, the miata is the most realistic to purchase and the monster miata kit would be my choice. it's unfortunate that the kit is mainly for the 1st gens, but there are options for the 2nd gens. i don't think i'd ever consider 3rd gen or later.

i found a leftover stock 08 s2000 but it's a CR
for 27k, new

i don't think i can live with a cr as a DD tho since it's hard top on or off.
kinda defeats the purpose of having a convertible

thanks for the thoughts guys, and yes i've driven both an s2k and miata already.
the s2k would be less dd friendly because how often are you gonna be in vtec
since that's where the usable powerband is, the miata on the other hand is almost
always in it's powerband.

main thing i do like is in both it feels like im in a big go kart

A Miata is a fun little car but it would be a terrible DD, but still better than a S2K in that regard. The S2K would be the better performance car of the two though. I'd probably never get a Miata though, just finding the right driving position results in me looking straight at the windshield frame. Kinda hard to drive it when I can't see s*** out front!

out of the box the s2000 is "faster", but as far as modding, the miata is way cheaper

I consider the NC miata a downgrade from the NB.. they mushed it up so all the whiny fat americans can be happy

yeah, as a second car you couldn't go wrong with either. the MS3 is quicker than both to 60 and in the 1/4 though AND its practical, best to just keep it. Pricewize, miata FTW as a second car

The Miata came out 3rd in Motor Trend's Oct issue for "Best Drivers Car". That is saying something about that car.

1. cayman s pdk
2. audi R8
3. Miata
4. cadillac cts-v
5. shelby gt-500
6. zr-1
7. nismo 370z
8. jag xfr
9. bmw 135i
10. camaro ss

Obviously the MX-5 is slower than all the cars, but in the fun to drive factor and being a drivers car it rates very high.

I traded a 2006 MX5 for the MS3. The ONLY advantage the MX5 had was on tight twistys. Everywhere else the MS3 blows it away. Plus after a Sunday drive I can stop and SHOP!!
