Ok, being that it pisses me off that my elbow is always fighting the door lock, and i dont even realize it anymore, and attempt to get out of my car and realize im locked in...

is there something i can do like my wifes 4Runner where when you turn it off and take out the key the doors unlock automatically?

i know this seems trivial but it really gets under my skin :'(

Aftermarket alarms support this, so I'm sure it can be done. Maybe 1st can shed some light on this.

i need an alarm anyhow, though dont really want to pay someone to install it, so ive been procrastinating :(

My car does that stock. It came that way from the dealer. But we get different versions for some of the included accessories... for example:

- I have the auto-down AND auto-up driver side window button.
- Fog light indicator on the instrument panel (I have read that most US Pros dont have it)
- Power lock, and auto-unlock when I turn the engine off (all four doors).

damn wonder how i could get the auto up to work as well as the auto lock/unlock

Well... the auto-up is actually on the switch itself. So in order to make the window go up automatically you would need to replace the actual switch. And that would be it. At least on the cars sold here.

The auto-unlock... I have no idea.

What I would absolutely LOVE to have, is the auto-up on all the windows when you set the alarm (like my wife's VW). When she sets the alarm, all the windows go up.

a nice feature of my wifes 4runner is auto up and down on both front window switches on the drivers side, and auto up and down on the passenger side control.

The door lock/unlock and windows up upon arm are all features supported by most high-end alarms like someone else said...alot of alarms require a different module for each function, such as one for windows up, another for sunroof up, etc. On my last vehicle when I armed the alarm, it would lock the doors, roll up the windows, and close the sunroof. I could also do all of that in reverse using my remote, or just open the sunroof, etc. I could sit at work looking out at my car and pop the sunroof on hot days, and then close it if I saw rain coming, which was pretty cool. So yeah it's possible just $$$ and alot of wiring...but back to the first question, the lock/unlock is easy on most alarms :D

Would there be any way to just get that specific auto unlock module from an alarm and wire it somehow on an otherwise stock setup?

I've got those features too :D, I guess we south americans did get some nice extra features after all...I still hate mazda for not giving us the 2.0l though (argh) .

The auto lock-unlock features are built into the alarm, wich comes stock from the dealer but is installed by them, so I guess you could consider it "aftermarket".

You're right... I hate our dealer for not giving us a 2.0L !!!!

I think people would buy them instead of the 1.6L. I can't believe they actually think people are not interested in more power.

I got mine with a 10 CD changer in the trunk as well... and tinted windows from the dealer... but the tint is peeling off (cheap ass dealer).

Even though I can't complain about the extras we get over here, I would give them up in a second if it meant getting a 2.0L instead.

Yes, you can build an auto unlock circuit pretty easily if your car is equipped with power locks. You need some relays and misc. things. A good source of info to check is www.the12volt.com

Here's another link to the direct page http://www.the12volt.com/doorlocks/page3.asp#aul

A friend of my dad works for mazda (gerente de mercadeo en venezuela I think), I asked him about the 2.0l and he told that it's because mazda japan is the one that makes this kind of decisions and that in this case they said that the 2.0l engine would not function properly with the gas we use, wich is a bunch of crap according to this guy.

In my country we get the 1.8l BUT with an auto tranny and in the sedan version only, I went with the 1.6l because I wanted a 5speed and I also liked the hatch better. (this is also a mazda japan decision :wtf: )

That guy is right... it is a load of s***. The gas we get here is just as good (97 octane is the highest we get here... then we have 93, and 87). Three choices.

For real man, I've actually heard that we get better quality of gas here than in the US (at least in my country) and it's dirt cheap to boot :D. I just filled her up 3/4 of the tank, 95 unleaded and I only paid like 2-3 US $.

Edit: sorry about jacking your thread matthew, i didn't mean to.

it can be done in so many ways. as mazdadan said, you can do it with a couple of relays and a resistor (lock and unlock are on the same wire, but with a different resistance to ground) i would recommend just going for an aftermarket alarm.
i have the Viper 790XV (2 way) alarm with remote start, DEI 530T window modules (2)....so the doors lock when i arm it and the windows roll up (waiting on the third 530T for the sunroof)...the windows vent or roll completely down if i hold down channel 3, and the windows will roll back up when i remote start the car. you need not all of those options, but they are available.....i can get you the tech information necessary to do the work and help you through it. do some research and make a good decision
