Will Not Shift To 5th Or 6th Gear In Sport Mode? 2024 CX-5

Is this normal? If I start from stopped, or at anytime 4th or below, it will not upshift to 5th or 6th, no matter how light I am on the throttle. I can take off from a start normally, 1/4 throttle, and it will upshift fine until 4th. Then it won't go any higher. I can be feathering the pedal at 70MPH and it just stays in 4th unless I manually upshift it. Is this normal? Should it not automatically upshift if I'm light on the pedal? I've never had a vehicle with a sport or power mode do this. Shifts fine in normal mode, and upshifts fine in sport until 4th gear. Suggestions?

I rarely drive in Sport mode, but the few times I did, it did not go beyond 4th. This was with both of my CX-5's ('20 and '22). So I would guess it is working by design.

Haven't used sport mode yet. Got the car beginning of May, will have to take it out on the freeway and see if it does the same. It's also a Canadian '22 GS. More later...

I also use Sport mode a bit, mostly up onramps to the highway where I need that extra "oomph" to get to merging speed.

If I remember rightly, my 2016.5 GT tops out at about 4000 rpms ... uncertain of the gear, but I'd bet it's 4th. I always put it back to "normal" mode, for the fuel efficiency, once I'm up to speed, so I don't look to see what gear it's on. I'll do that next time.

Tried it out and it will shift up if you use the manual mode. Otherwise it stays in 4th.

OK Same as mine. All good then.

Nice, so it won't upshift out of 4th on the Dyno. Good to know. Now to make sure it doesn't downshift to 3rd.

Use manual mode and it shouldn't be an issue.
