NO...not unless you want to cut up the door....

why not buy the alpine type R 5X7's and use them?

no probs putting 6.5's on 5x7's. nowadays. they should have kits but i have made one using plywood.

btw, i also have the 6.5 type-r's :D

ok i went to the crutchfield site and they said that best fit is 6x8 in the front. others are 5 1/4"
so my question is do i need to modify it to fit the 5 1/4" speaker?
i know there will be a gap where the stock speaker is so im guessing that i need to plug that up right?

this one place where crutchfields is WRONG! the back door speakers are NOT 5 1/4" they are in fact 6's....and 6 1/2s drop right in...and backspacing in the door is NOT A PROBLEM as there is at least 4 inches of empty door behind the rear door speakers...

if you doubt me.....check out my thread on the subject and you can see the picture of my tapemeasure stickin in the hole of the door.

Listen to crutchfield. When I was shopping for speakers, I was looking for 5x7s. They steered me toward 6x8s. They told me the only difference between 5x7s and 6x8s were the speakers' mounting holes. I imagine this is true for 5 1/4s and 6 1/2s.I replaced the rear speakers w/ 6 1/2s. They WERE NOT a perfect fit. The holes didn't line up perfectly. So, I imagine 5 1/4s should fit perfectly.

the reason they were not a PERFECT fit is because the stock speakers are not 6 1/2's.....they are in fact 6's. BUT 6 1/2's will fit in the hole nicely....and putting new mounting holes in the flange of the speaker is pretty easy....provided you have a drill....that is what I had to do too.
