Will 225/45/17 on a 17x7 rim be OK?

I ordered some rims and tires from wheelwarehouse.com The guy said 225/45/17 on a 17x7 rim. I told him the stockers are 204/45/17, he said they just did an MP3 and used the 225 no problem. I told him to make sure they would fit and not rub, he assured me that would be fine. Any takes on this? I think they will rub in the back, and I think 225 is too wide for a 7" rim, but I am no tire expert.

I asked Wheelguru a while back about using 215/45 17's on an MP3 and he said they would rub. Since that is the case, I'm pretty sure 225/45 will rub. I think you should email Wheelguru with this question.

are you using the stock wheels because if you are you might hit the strut's spring perch. but to answer your question yes 225/45/17's will fit on a 17x7

Yeah, Sean and I will have to do some measuring on his car if that's the case.

If you really want maximum width w/ maximum sidewall then that would be the way to go. If you do get this stuff from Sean and I, we will make sure that what you want fits before it leaves. I mean, he's got the MP3 and I got the 5. I'll look at the figures. I would reccommend a 215/45 at most or a 225/40 would fit fine. ARe you looking for a long lasting tire or a sticky one? If long lasting then get the Nitto 555 225/40/17. It's a sweet ass size. What I run for show in the front of one of my RX7's.
Otherwise run the 215/45 as I agree that you'll hit the lower spring perch if you don't have true coilovers or cut the perch off if you got GC's. WE're fully capable of doing anything and testing things on these cars.

Call us on tire options.

Thanks, the guuruu and ARD

ARD, quick question. Are you saying 215/40/17 is a good bet for not rubbing on a stock suspension? If I were to get those JIC coilovers when they come, would the 225/45/17s work without having to "roll the fender"? Looking at the "Tire Size Calculator" page, it looks like 215/40/17 would be off by 2mph on the speedo, while the 225s would be off by .4...

Also, can someone explain what rolling out the fender means? Thanks! ;)

Chris

By my own quick calculation:

225/45-17 would have a circumference 102.92% of stock

225/40-17 would be 99.27%

If you were concerned about keeping the size the same, I would go with the 40 series.

Circumference is not an issue, width is. If you go much wider on the back it will rub the fenders.
