Will 17"x7" With 40 Off Set fit a p5?

I'm bidding on some wheels on ebay from ADR they are 17x7 with a 40 offset. They have the right bolt pattern. But what does the offset mean and will they fit a p5 nicely?

for a 17 X 7 you need a +45 offset for them to fit properly even if you lower it and you will not have ANY rubbing....

i have 17x7 with +45...you better not go with +40s or youll be sorrier than s***

Sedan would be fine with a 40, but P5s need slightly more offset
