Why use the 4 instead of the 6 cyl?

Does anyone know?

To me it would make more sense to take advantage of the larger displacement engine, and install a lower pressure turbo.
I'm worried about the longevity of such a highly blown small motor.
But, maybe there's something I'm missing.

Even at approx 39,000, the car sounds awesome. I can't wait.

With any luck though, they'll come out with another 3Speed since I don't have to play the lotto to drive it.

Take a read of the Mazdaspeed6 threads further down in this section and you'll see discussion about this.

I can sum it up pretty quickly too. The v6 is a North America offered only engine. The MPS 6 was developed in and for countries where the Duratec wasn't offered and the MZ is the new bread and butter of the mazda lines.

think of the cost of a supercharger+V6 39, would be generous but the v6 has almost 100 more pounds on front wheels causing the handeling to slightly dimish when cornering (ask crossbow and necessity of this) 4cyl block is told to wistand 1000hp(mine wasn't one of those blocks I guess :( ) think of it this way...if the speed 6 was made here as a v6...you would have a turbo 6 cly with 18's and a speed appearance package. you would lose dsc, hid, navi, awd, and JDM authentics

Okay, it sort of makes sense. It sounds like a cost saving measure. Mazda makes more 4 cylinder motors, so economies of scale makes fiscal sense.

I don't have a comparable street machine with this kind of HO engine to check the reliability of so time will have to tell. I'm not buying a car for another year anyway, and the reports will definitely be in by then.

And, it just looks so much better than a Subie

eh...legacy bug got a few of us...specialy the one we won't see here (legacy s204 aka "STi") that 2.5 does sound nice wot but yeah ther are a few turbo kits out. one guy claims he's outrunning the camaros in his boosted 2.3. he's posting his dyno in a few and selling them on ebay iirc.

Beware of the Ebay turbo seller...scam artist. He changes the specs and information everytime he posts. He's banned from 6tech for lack of followthrough, or any type of information other then random claims, and constant spamming.

Purchase at your own risk. 6i MTX has a weak 3rd gear...it starts breaking once you get over 200 whp...

what makes you think its running on high boost? does anyone know what PSI the speed will be no where near as high as an evo for sure

The 4 banger is a darn tough motor. It's been around for a couple years. And that it's the motor used globally.

Yeah, crossbow, the rods can't-but there are a few aftermarket suppliers already! I remember when that motor came out, replacing the old 2.3 OHC Pinto motor in the Ford rangers.

Ya Marcy motorsports or what not has full engine rebuilds for the 2.3 duratec. (Mazda I4 L3 engine). They include forged everything.

The MPS 6 supposedly has really beefy rods...which combined with direct fuel injection, should give the engine some reinforcement.

In the SCCA pro world challenge though, their 6i mtx was running 280 bhp about (NA) and the only thing to break was the stock transmission, which fell apart every race.

evo psi specs:
3500rpm= 19 psi
6500rpm=16.24 psi
