Why does the Gen 2 Mazda5 have low mpg in town?

Most cars local vs freeway driving may have about 4mpgs difference.
MZ5 has about 6/7 - am I correct?

What do you guys get?

I primarily used for out of town drive. When I tried 6mile trips, mpg seems under 22. Is this what you guys are getting?

My wife drive kids to school daily, total distance is about 4 miles. The car (2014 Mazda 5) doesn't even properly heat up, most probably. So her average mpg is around 16 with such usage. When traveling on highway, I remember we were getting something around 25 or so.
When I drive my 2008 Mazda 5 for 3-4 hours straight, mixed highway and city (ride-sharing, basically), I get around 26 (top I can remember).
So, I would say, yes, this is sort of normal mpg.
You can try cleaning your throttle body and air intake, I think it can increase mpg a little bit. Definitely wouldn't make it worse.

Yeah for whatever reason, the MZ5 with the automatic will only average 26-27 mpg tops. Kinda sucks, but it is what it is.

Doesn't matter, I still adore ours. Couldn't imagine driving anything else, because there's nothing else on the market like it.

I easily get 28 on freeway.
It is city driving I am complaining, just under 22mpg - 6 miles one way. The difference between city and freeway is high.
