Why do SRT-4's try and race me?

I've had the car exactly one week. Loved every minute. The only thing that pisses me off is that two subies, one sti, one evo, and about eight srt-4s have all tried racing me. Eh... i'm assuming these guys know something about the car and would therefore know that it makes a claimed 170 crank hp... Why in the HELL would I race any of the above cars? Its not like the MSP stands a chance in any of the races when stock... and for most of the races it would take some serious work (internals and a big potato...) to keep up with them.

Are these people just dumb?
 
no, they enjoy shitting on slower cars... its fun to pick on slower cars when you've got something much quicker
 
they try to race you because you are a sure kill, just like many people here know the cars they should beat. they aren't looking for a good race, they are looking for a sure win. period.

if you mod, then you can start to win some against them. but it will take quite a few mods because at those levels you'll experience fuel cut, bogging, and possible danger to your internals.

but I would think if you got a lot of mods and beat a couple of them, they start backing off, as you might start to get a reputation as "that yellow MSP that is fast"

if you dont want to race then just ignore them.
 
I have the opposite issue with mine. I've only been challenged to a race once since I've owned that car. But those guys are for sure in it for the kill. They bought their cars for that soul purpose. It makes them happy to beat people even though they are supposed to with the cars they buy. Inflate the already big ego heh. That is some of them at least :). I've only met a few people that liked to race just for the sake of racing. Didn't matter who won and by how much.
 
i love when evos, srts, stis try to race me, but what they don't realize what is about to happen and the look on their face :D
 
hehe well evil you're car wont be soo easy to beat here pretty soon...snicker snicker...most imports dont screw with me, its the damn trucks that seem to have it out for me...the funny thing is 70% of the time i roll down my window and the redneck is like oh hi john i didnt know it was you, I dont recognize you without your big jeep....

Its been my philosophy since day one. At least until my Perrin FMIC and other crap gets here ;)

I just like the look on some peoples faces when they see the car. Two guys in a galant were actually like flipping out over the car one night. Made me feel good. :)

Aaaahaha I love that. The only guy that races me all the time is my roommate in his Hemi Ram. Oh yea hI wonder what happened to my car. I looked out the window and it just disapeared one day, odd.... Hopefully the theif will feel bad and give it back to me with more power.
 
people just might not know its a msp. most people i've encoutered don't even know what a mazdaspeed protege. only a very select few who know their s***. most people see the big wing, blinging rims, exhaust, and body kit automatically think TUNER lets race it.

also since our cars a rare, they may just wanna see how well their cars stack up against the msp.
 
I wont comment on the STI's or EVO's, except for the fact that more then likel they bought the car because it is a killer.

As far as the SRT-4's are concerned, I think it is more of a point to prove then anything. These guys have been getting ragged on for buying a "Neon" when it is just the shell that the SRT-4's heart was put into. Its the fact that the majority of the Import or sport compact guys dont respect the car. So they need to show you that the SRT-4 is currently the king of the streets, and dont **** with it. :D

Just my honest Opinion is all.
 
i'm not afraid of no stock scooby wrx or srt. I have a friend w/ a wrx and i take him on every roll (although he would kick my ass from a stand still)... Well maybe i just shift better than he does. Anywayz the moral of the story is... I confide in my msp , it's super rare, I love everything about it, and... it looks so much sexier;).
 
I'll race you! Okay case in point: My wife has been driving stick for about 3 months. Not everyday, maybe 2 hours per week. Are you afraid to race her in her SRT? It isn't a supercar! Geez guys. Just race them if it bothers you that much, you might get the jump and you might win. But...you might get the respect...and to some people, that is more important.

I have met more people with Hondas like that than SRTs. Most SRT people I know go to the track. No one has ever dogged me for buying a Neon. Most say "Holy crap! Nice driveway." BTW the MSP is just a Protege ES.

There is more to life than drag racing. Try something with turns. Go beat all the other cars at an autocross. Besides, you can lose control of the SRT easily, so maybe you'd beat them because they ran into a parked car or a telephone pole or an oak tree or an innocent victim...

Why do we have to debate the MSP vs SRT every week?

I have never seen one of these threads on the SRT boards. Why are we MSP owners so obsessed with beating a car we despise?

i wish people would give a damn about the handling capabilities of the MSP. That is why I bought the car, not because of its straight line quickness. But lets face it, no one really care about that on the street. And our raod course closed last weekend so I never got to track the car :( I wasnt trying to start a SRT-4 vs. MSP debate. Very nice cars either way, I just prefer the MSP.
