I have seen at least 2 people here that switched from the Joe P. MBC to the Turbo XS MBC. I thoght the Joe P MBC was a good piece. Why are people switching. I am asking for a friend that want a MBC.

got me... maybe because the turbo xs is prettier?
i think some of the turbo xs ones can be controlled from inside of the cockpit, and they make dual stage ones, so maybe the people who switched got one of those.

i got the turboxs for the deul stage. Also i never felt right with the joe p. Seemed to "garage" for me.

how much is the turbo xs dual stage, and is it the one that can be controlled from in the cockpit?

you wont be able to raise boost manually from the cockpit but you can set the psi and then on the inside you got a switch to switch from the 2 boost settings, like from 10 to 15 or whatever psi's you place.
i think you can get one for like 220

never tried or seen a joep in person, I'm sure its a good piece though. But I like my turbo xs (standard manual version) Doesn't seem to spike on me at all, exept for the first time I adjusted it but it kind of went away??? wierd huh. Luck of the draw maybe. I like the internal screw you adjust. Got mine off ebay for $35

When i first put mine in i NEVER got any spike. I played with the settings and now it alwways spikes a few pounds......wierd. I tried putting it back to where i had it, no luck still spikes.

yeah...i must say...i have set the JoeP MBC to 7psi, then, all of sudden in 3rd gear my boost peaked an overboost of 15psi, and cracked 2 of my pistons.
I dont have a Mazdaspeed Protege, but a MBC works the same on any turbo setup.

i know many of youare experiencing Boost Spikes....plus with the colder weather...it'll happen even more.

I would STRONGLY recommend a good Dual Electronic Boost Controller.

Well I have had my JOEPMBC for a long time thousands of miles pre-flash and post-flash so far it has held boost like a freaking champ.
I hit 12 PSI then it drops to 10 by shift but it does hold it in a very linear fashion. My pipes expand a bit but I can't blame him for the crappy plastic pipes.
Maybe Joey made mine special.:D :p :D
Joey just step away from the banjo.
No! I don't want to go to Arkansas with you Joey.
Just a canoe trip huh? Nope, aint gonna happen.
Do I like Ned Beaty? That's it I'm out...(outie)

a manual boost controller in the cockpit will just cause worse spikes. The longer the vacuum hose running from the boost source and the wastegate just increases the spikes.
I have a Joe P MBC, and it works fine. 3 other people in the area also have them, and love them. As far as i can tell, any MBC is an MBC..
an EBC will perform better, but are 5-10x as expensive. For intro level tuning, the cost isnt worth it.

actually, there are people that say a MBC works better than an EBC so I guess it's a matter of personal preference.

but the switch for the turbo xs dsbc is electronically wired to the actual boost controllers. the vacuum hoses are still kept inside the engine bay.

so what is the danger of hitting the fuel cut off? Does it cause damage to have that occur?

Well normally it shouldnt be the life and death of your engine. However If the cut off isn't complete to would cause a lean situation for a short time. This could cause detonation.

If you have an extra injector controller it will cause a leaning out because the EIC uses the stock injectors to maintain ballance of A/F. Fuel cut kicks in and the EIC can't compensate... Engine goes lean, engine begins to detonate.

yeah if a fuel cut is because of a maxed out injectors, you will go lean because, its not a fuel cut as-is, its just that injectors stalled.
Engine can go boom because some fuel is being injected anyway.

ok so fuel cut = bad. I thought that the jerking motion that occurs when you hit it might weaken the motor mounts but I never considered detonation. So how does the FCD help ?
