Hawaii: Want to join M-SPEC?
Ok after numerous polls and a lot of other silliness I think the time has finally come to start figuring out membership and such.
As of right now the club name is a long one. There was some contention over the results of the poll and we decided the easiest answer was to combine the two winning names. So, the club's name is M-SPEC: The Mazda Performance Club of Hawaii. So, you can refer to it as M-SPEC or MPC of Hawaii or whatever you prefer. We're laid back. lol.
The basics are this. The club will be open to all Mazdas. So, basically Protege, MX-3, MX-6, RX-7, MX-5, 3, 6 and such. Hell, I guess an MPV can join, but I don't see that happening. lol. We talked about it, but Ford Probes and other Mazda powered vehicles will not be allowed.
There will be no membership fees or anything like that. If we need to get money together for an event like a BBQ or something we'll just do a collection amongst members attending. As far as I know right now, no beat-ins, spanking trains or eating of a live goldfish will be required to join either. lol. J/K.
There has also been no discussion of a minimum amount of mods required to join. I know there are some clubs that do require this, but I see no reason for it. If you are looking to join a club more than likely you have the intention of modifying your car in the near future anyhow, so why make it a silly requirement. So, those of you who voiced concerns because you were still running stock, have no fear. Please come and join us.
Now for the fine print. There has been a lot of comments made throughout the threads that the use of Team in a name associates it with street racing and that people did not want to be associated with that. While I don't really see that the word team is synonymous with street racing, I agree that I don't want the club to be associated with or viewed as a group of street racers. I am not gonna try to lecture or anything like that. Don't take me wrong. What one does on there own time is there deal. I am not going to say that someone who street races can't be a member of the club. We're all big boys and girls and we all make our own decisions. However, I just want to make it clear that this club will not be a group that encourages street racing or condones it.
But, you must be asking, what can this club do for me? Well, I'll tell ya. lol. MSPHAWAII has already talked to the guy who runs Speed Gear and he says that Speed Gear will offer some sort of discounts to club members. Nothing firm yet of course, but possibly discounts on shipping or installation. I am going to talk to Kenny and Ben at APEX Motorsports, Jack at Ion, and Ben at Corksport and see if they won't offer the club group buy pricing with possibly discounted shipping. That will probably largely depend on the size of the orders of course.
Of course M-SPEC will offer what all clubs offer. A group with combined knowledge and resources. In other words we'll help each other find parts, mod our cars, and whatever else we need. Of course along with all of this we'll be having meets or cruises hopefully at least twice a month. Mabey more depending upon intrest. We will more than likely always share our meets and cruises with Team Pro 5. In case you haven't come out to one of their meets yet, they are a great group of guys and have been very supportive and helpful to us in getting M-SPEC rolling.
Once we start getting things together we'll be ordering Club T-shirts courtesy of Shorebroke. We still have to decide on our logo or whatever you want to call it. We already have a couple people working on them and feel free to chop something up if you have an idea. We'll also offer M-SPEC decals for your car if you want to represent the club that way. No biggie if you don't I know a lot of people think rice when I say decal. lol. I'm talking with Modern Images about them right now, but nothing is firm because I can't tell them how many we want and what the measurements will be. So, if anyone knows of a local place to get them that would be better just let us know.
Of course there is still a lot to be figured out. We'll have to decide if we want a President, Vice Pres. or anything like that. But, that can all be figured out later. I know I have used us and we several times and you might be wondering who that is. As of right now M-SPEC consists of myself, MSPHAWAII, NEMASIS, Hawaii_MSP plus there have been several others who have given us a lot of great input, but more than likely won't join us as members because of their involvement in other clubs. A big thanks to those guys by the way. Anyhow, as of right now I am just acting as the point of contact, so feel free to throw any questions or comments my way.
Well, I have rambled on long enough. I hope I have covered everything but if I haven't feel free to ask. I'll start a "hey, mabey I want to be a member" block below. Thanks.
