whining noise by engine when not giving it gas?

hi-
i just bought a 2005 mazda 3 hatchback yeserday, and have just noticed it makes a high pitched whining noise in the engine area when I'm not giving it gas. So if the car is idling, or in between shifting when I take my foot off the gas, you can hear the noise. It goes away when I give it gas. Didn't notice it when I bought and test drove the car yesterday. Any ideas? thanks

i hear the same thing on my 07...wish i could give you some hints... lets see if anyone has any ideas.... its not the AC or anything and I didnt notice it either when I first test drove it...

whining noise is the transmission, at least in my case

you can get them to take a look at it.. for me, whenever i accelerate it sounds like a freaken supercharger haha im use to it by now
